has anyone ever seen this before?

There's a newer style oil cap, part number 11128619360 but if your valve cover is peeling bad and doesn't provide a good sealing surface it still don't seal.

I installed a brand new cap from BMW and it solved the problem for about 1 month. On mine the powder coating was peeling apart in a few sections on top of the oil filler were the rubber seal sits on the rocker cover. I used a sharp stanley knife to shave away all the remaining excess paint so that its smooth bare metal. That solved the problem.
