Rod bearing knock ?
Hello, everyone, for several days I’ve heard my engine banging. Do you think the Rods bearing are? The car is stage 2 gintani burble mods with 118,000km. The rods bearing already replace at 90,000km by the former owner. I use the car a lot. Thank you for your reply.

What does it sound like when you rev it up? What about when you cycle the ac compressor on and off? Has the sound gotten worse since you first heard it? You should record it and post here. Also check the oil filter for any shavings.
At least on N52/54 I've seen the ac compressor pulley make weird knocking/ticking noises similar to this. But of course on those engines the idea of a rod bearing spinning out is pretty far fetched. If noise doesn't change when turning off ac and such take off the belt and see how it sounds to rule out any accessories |

From the idle sounds, it isn't rod knock.
Does it make more noises when reved?

Oil filter looks clean. The problem gets worse when I accelerate to 3000rpm, and bang harder when I let go of the accelerator pedal, then resumes its normal noise at idle. seems to come from the upper part of the engine. As if the oil pressure does not pass through the chain tensioner or the vanos. Maybe chain tensioner even if I replaced them 10,000km ago. Or vanos pulley. What do you think ?

What if you drain the oil what does it look like. I'd try see if you can have a look from the fill cap but idk if that lets you see anything on s65

Are you talking about the "chug chug" sound?
If so, I'm pretty sure that's normal noise from the clutch, depress the clutch while idling and it goes away. |

You would need a syringe to pull some oil out to inspect it.

Definitely, but inspecting the oil for obvious metal flakes or glitter is an approach that will get you quicker results. If it's rod knock, you should definitely see flakes in the oil.

Doesn't sound like rod knock to me as much as an exhaust leak. Open the oil filter housing and suck out the oil. Remove the filter and inspect the inner ridges as this is where metal flakes will be trapped. Take the oil filter in the sunlight for easy viewing. Also you could have scraped your exhaust on a speed bump and made the collector connection loose.

L'huile semble propre et il ne semble pas y avoir de fuite d'échappement ...
Je ne trouve toujours pas Que pensez vous du tendeur de chaine de distribution ou des ajusteur de vanos ? Last edited by remi34000; 11-02-2020 at 01:43 PM.. |

I have the exact same noise which is most obvious at idle. I have a loud exhaust so maybe I just don't hear it over the exhaust noise at higher rpms. Don't think it's rod bearings as that noise comes from the left side of the car (I think). I thought it may be an exhaust header leak but those should get louder with rpms. |
