In September I will need new tyres (maybe earlier) and I will go for PSS.

I see a lot of people chosing 255f / 275r over the stock 245f/265r, and this probably isn't lack of sizes.

To the ones that chose 255f / 275r: Why did you go this route? Is it looks? Is it performance / better grip? Going larger means going heavier (and tyres is the worst place to be adding weight), not to mention larger circumference i.e. torque to the wheels is lower. I know differences are small but why take any hit?

I find the stock size quite ideal all issues considered, and grip is very good in my experience with stock 19'' sizes in PS2s.

For daily driving it probably doesn't mean much. For the race track more grip means faster around the corners.

I turned 4 seconds faster at Road Atlanta with:
ZCP 275/30/19 front, 295/30/19 rear (PSS)

compared to:
APEX ARC-8 275/35/18's all the way around (PSS).

The wheels were 6 pounds lighter! 18in rubber was lighter too!

But still I was able to go through corners faster with the wider 19's.

Of course the PSS 295/30/19's cost an arm and a leg.
18's are great because of cheap lightweight rubber and more selection.

At least in the US, the PSSs are not available in stock 265/35-19.

I think most do it for the meatier footprint, both for looks, and if using wider aftermarket wheels, for fit. As you say, the difference is small if just going 10mm wider, and Michelins are already some of the lightest tires. Going to 20s is a much larger difference.

Just installed some PSS as replacement for the PS2s. So far, they seem great.

Wow... that is a very decisive win for the PSS... out performed in almost EVERY category in objective testing.

How is the 275/295 setup on the ZCP's?

It's awesome. 4 seconds faster at road atlanta than on 18's.
I might unmount them and save them for next years one lap (295's are expensive) - I should have a blower on the car next year - then the 295's will be put through their paces :P

Do you feel the sidewall wasn't supported properly with only a 9"/10" width? Also did you need a spacer in the front?

Actually I was surprised that the walls still had some stretch outward - I was expecting the sidewall to go inward typical of doing a +1 but it was the opposite. Take a look a some of the pictures I posted in another thread. The rubber is rather "square" which is what I like. There is a little more sidewall squirm but the extra rubber still got me better times at road atlanta. (check out my gallery here http://chows.smugmug.com/Davids-Gadg...275144_Gc6hdJt)

I think a 10in wide front and a 11in wide rear would better support the rubber (and have a stretched look which I hate), but as it is it's fine

The extra rubber really fills out the wheel wells. However do note that when the rears are at full travel it'll rub a bit - every so slightly. After driving it around a bit the rubbing went away. It's very slight and only when at full travel. Still worth it imho. Why do you need the extra grip? Are you going SC?

You know even normally aspirated form I find the rear lacking in traction with 285's out back. Then again its fun to be able to point the direction of the nose using the throttle and with the excellent diffy this car has. My issue is going back to the .5" difference in tire diamater so the DSC won't be so intrusive as it is now with the 255/285 setup. The slightest throttle input with the DSC on in a curve can kick off the DSC. It really isn't that bad but the front is now taller than the rear by .2" and nanny aids kick in with it a tad sooner with steering input and throttle. Not to mention I just love the look..

My car now with 255/285 setup

The rears are at 25.9", a tad small but its what the GTS is using, I like the smaller 30 series over the 35 for this size. Thats why the 295/30s would make sense. The 285/30 is perfect for the E46 M3 though...the OEM size was 26" for the E46 M3.

I'm not into the painted reflectors, I would rather get a euro bumper or just leave it alone.

I finally got to push my PSS a bit today on some curves, wow these things grip. No squealing or anything just grip, was nervous to find the limit so I backed off, but a huge improvement over my worn PS2s, that is all I have to compare them to, best tire I have owned to date. I love the ride quality too!

No drop. Stock ZCP which is 10mm lower than non-zcp I think.

If you didn't hear them, you were probably not near the limit. I noticed on track, they have plenty of audible communication, just ease into it.

And no rubbing on the fronts with 275's?

I've been on the fence about doing spacers with 275's in the rear, but the 295's in the rear seem like they help a bit with making it look more flush.

No rubbing at all on the fronts (even with zcp).
If I recall correctly the 275/30/19's are the same size or very close to 275/35/18 which are my track set.
