BMW M3 GT4 to make 24-hour premiere at the Nürburgring

I don't get it. BBS CH wheels are not really race wheels. Those are great looking but very heavy not like RG-R or LMs. I don't know why they put that cheap (compare to rest of BBS wheels) heavy wheels on race cars. (I had CHs on my E46M3 so I know)

Again, think production-based race car. The rules probbaly do not allow for ultra light weight wheels. I am sure some teams will run their own wheels within the rules as well.

You mean because it lacks so many basic amenities? Yeah I agree, but then people do some pretty extreme things to their cars. Plus, at least it has the factory HVAC, or so it appears. I suppose adding a radio would be possible too.

LM-R, RGR are still street wheels.
BMW did everything they can do to save the weight (taking carpets, interior panels off etc.) but replacing wheels will shave a lot of weights.

I know they're smarter than me so there must be good reasons for it but I just don't understand.

Pure speculation here, but past experience at a race car manufacturer would lead me to believe one thing about the wheels. When teams buy rollers, they often times have a sponsor or agreement in place with one particular supplier. Since they will need lots of wheels over the season, the race car manufacturer will just supply a simple, yet useful, set for the car to roll out of the shop and into a trailer. Once in the team's hands, the car is outfitted with what they determine is the best way to go both in terms of performance and sponsorship obligations.

Also, BMW won't get any special pricing on just a few sets custom race wheels, so might as well let the team sort out that issue. This is also true for several other components, such as shocks, springs, data acquisition, etc.

It's a lot like politics -- just follow the $$$ and many otherwise puzzling issues are met with clarity!

I wouldn't install the suspension from the M3 GT4. The suspension is designed for a much lighter car... It's not going to work with our big fat normal M3s

1) H-pattern gearbox - means gears are selected in a motion/pattern like the letter "H". This is just like our stock shift pattern. Sequential pattern is only two directions. up to downshift and down to upshift (or vise versa) in any gear.

2) Quick release Steering wheel - Steering wheel has a mechanism that allows the driver to quickly remove the steering wheel from the steering column thus making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle.

So anyone heard of an official weight for this car?

Also, are these the same cars that raced in the Dutch GT races this past weekend? If so, they looked great, but didn't dominate in the race. Might still take a few races to sort it out to make it competitive.
