Possible Rod Bearing Failure
Started the car this morning loud knocking noise. It went away so i thought nothing of it. Moved the car to clean out garage. Started it again to move the car and noticed the noise.
I think I'm screwed. And yes bearings were replaced less than a year ago with less than 3000 miles. |

Is the car warmed up in this video? It sounds like it's quieting down a bit as the video progresses.
It's normal for the lifters to tick and clickity clack a bit until the car warms up. Yours does sound more pronounced and a little louder then normal here. If it is in fact the rod bearings and you just changed them 3,000 miles ago, I'm lost for words. If to you as the owner it sounds very different then normal then I would take it in and get a diagnosis ASAP. Linked below is an good write up on the topic (RE: BMW inline six, but still relevant). There are also some good thesis on the possible causes and fixes, as well as reasons due to driving style (i.e. Euro vs. American) which I thought was an interesting POV. Thought this was a pretty good overview and might be relevant here. Curious if the sound goes away when you warm it up a bit more. https://www.quirkyuncle.com/2013/04/...w-lifter-tick/ What about a video with the hood open capturing sound from both sides of the motor?

Does sound a little louder than normal but I don’t hear rod knock. It’s really hard to capture accurate sound on a video so take everything we post with a grain of salt and tow it to your shop for inspection. Who did your RB’s and what was the setup you did? Would love to see the RB’s if they come out.

Mine too. That should give you some comfort. Maybe give him a ring.

Yah, it sounds exactly like my car. I believe I have an exhaust leak too, just don't know from where exactly.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. I had one after the shop did some work and I thought for sure I had a bearing issue. We put it on the rack, tightened exhaust and started. Noise gone.
