Rears are the same unless you have a sedan. Newer sedan kit (I call it V2 kit) has modified spring pockets (1/2" longer) with 1/8" disc spacers. But again, original Dinan sedan kit didn't come with modified spring pockets or disc spacers. So to me, it's more like fine tuning than must have.

Resurrecting an excellent thread here.
I think the bumpstops/perches and material removal issues have all been solved, but what about the Eibach springs versus the Dinans? Has anyone got a side by side photo of them showing their free length and can someone measure the wire thickness of both the Eibach and Dinan springs. If both springs are made by Eibach, the wire will be the same material. The wire diameter and free length will tell us if both springs are actually the same. |

I wish someone had some more reviews of this on the E93. The drop is substantially more (1/2" to 7/8" on the front and 3/4" rear). Eibach also increases the drop with the E93 over the E90/E92.

(sorry to Necro an old thread)
The rear spacer is all about ride height, it just raises the car. Remember that the springs are inboard quite a bit, so 1/8" at the spring is going to translate to quite a bit more at the actual wheel, since the suspension is a long lever arm. The extensions to the spring cup are just to make sure the spring stays in place. If you look at the parts diagram, the factory springs are ever so slightly barrel shaped. This gives them a bit more travel before they coil bind. Dinan's springs look like they are cylindrical. Will they coil bind before you hit the bump stops? Probably not. On the E60 M5, the Dinan kit included a billet steel spring perch in the rear because their stiffer springs deformed the stock perches. This doesn't appear to be the case with the E9x M3. Personally, I'm having a REAL hard time justifying Dinan at $1200 vs eibachs at $280 or so + e36 bumpstops. Shaving the guide supports is not a great idea with the Eibachs, since it will not increase travel at all, (rather just lower the car more.) Dinan gets to use a taller spring to compensate. Dinan's springs are Hyperco. |

and Daaah, as pointed out in another thread, shaving the guide supports will give additional travel, I conceptualized it wrong. Teaches me to post late at night

So has anyone actually tried Eibach + bumpstops and shaved guide supports as an alternative to the Dinan setup? Has anyone compared the Dinan springs to the Eibachs side by side? Is there a marked difference in length and/or spring rate? I guess I am having a hard time following how the alternative setup would work without the Dinan spring.

from reading the 12pages, members suggest for the e92 coupe, all you need is two front e36 bumpstops, 0.3" shorter guide support and its a done deal. however on the dinan website for e92 coupe, part number D190-9031 it lists the following: Included Items Performance Spring Set, Matching Front bump-stops and Front Guide Supports, Rear Upper Shock Mount Kit (14mm) is the rear upper shock mount kit added in the description in error? would it be wise to modify the factory front guide supports depsite not using dinans slightly taller springs than eibachs? dinan drop is so mild its basically factory. why bother at all from the picture the car still sits high up. 0.5" will cost you $1098? haha, maybe its worth it for penis enlargement, but serious for a car its not worth the price. |

if your going just for a look and want the car lower then just get the cheapest springs possible that lower the car, bc the dinan setup is not about the look of lowering the car at all. it is about the car handling better and riding better and it just so happens that it lowers it 1/2 inch
i have the Dinan stage 1 with camber plates and i can say the car handles so much better then stock and to my suprise it is more comfortable in any EDC setting the 1/2 drop is perfect for me bc of the roads i have around here anything lower wouldn't work for me. plus i am not into that whole slammed look etc but to each there own obviously but like i said if your just going for a look don't waste your money but if you want the car to handle better then it is worth every penny. i know other spring only setups will lower the car yes but the car will ride harsher and not handle as good, lower doesn't always mean better. sometimes you get what you pay for Quote:

I think the best/correct way would be taking to machine shop. Hacksaw sounds like really really bad idea.

There is another component not previously discussed here which is the Dinan rear shock mount. It is listed seperatly for $99.00. It appears this mount does thes same for the rear travel that the modified strut guide mounts do for the front.

Bingo. Here is a link to a picture of a complete Dinan stage 3 including a beautiful granite background.
