Sh*t like this only happens to me
For over 2 years I searched for a E92 ZCP and came very close many times. Once I even owned one for 2 months before it went back.
Most recently I was looking at one at a local dealership. It wasn't my ideal spec, but close. It had a sunroof and was black on black. While the dealership had it a rod bearing went out. I decided screw it, I'm fed up. Found a nice '17 M4 Comp, got a PPI and today agreed to the purchase. After that call, the dealership with the E92 calls. They got a new engine from BMW and it has been installed. 2 year unlimited mile warranty, about the same price we previously negotiated(26K). Many Oh man, sigh.... |

Well if the E92 was what you really wanted, I doubt you will ever be truly happy with the M4. You will always have that 'the one that got away' feeling.
Get the E92. |

E92s are not rare or hard to find in one's desired spec. Patience or flexility would have landed him in an E92 if he really wanted one. |

26k for a ZCP? sounds like a higher mileage DCT car with sunroof?
One who really wants a E92 doesnt somehow end up with an M4.... Either way nothing to regret here. you dont want a blown motor car, even with a 2 year warranty.

I have been open to either. I found one from an individual. He changed his mind, took it off the market and called me months later, after I purchased. Since then I am back down to 1 car and resumed the hunt. I like to pay about 1/3 - 1/2 cash and finance the rest and I do get the best APR in state from a dealer.

What's the story behind the one you had for 2 months and then "it went back"?

"new engines"
Please correct me if I am wrong on this, but I believed car manufacturers were required to continue to manufacture parts for their cars for 10 years after the last model year, which would have been 2013. This would mean they are still supplying parts up to year 2023. Perhaps this is parts only and not entire crate engines?
Also, they are very different cars. If you wanted the m3, buy the m3 with the new motor. If you wanted a newer m4 with all that comes along with a newer car, get the m4. The older m3 will require a lot more work to catch up to where you are regarding age of the car. Things do age out. I can't even replace the brake pad sensors on my m3 because the main wire harness connector dry rotted into dust. This shouldn't happen, but it does. It's things like that all over the car that will catch up with you. So you're left cutting wires and soldering on new connectors after days of research on parts and the right pins, etc etc.... I doubt they installed a brand new engine in a car only worth 26k. The engine and labor is easily 26k. I'd be very very cautious of that deal.

The E9X ///M3's are great cars, but honestly not sure why you want one, because all you'll do is mod it.....
1. Oil change (even DIY) is pricy (not a mod, but keep this in mind) 2. The stock muffler is too quiet (will require a sports exhaust) 3. The stock brakes have zero cosmetics (will require painted calipers) 4. The stock wheels don't sit flush (will require spacers) 5. The stock NA Engine doesn't have enough ponies (will require a tune/supercharger) 6. The stock ride height is too high (will require new adjustable shocks/springs) 7. The stock speakers suck (will require BSW speaker upgrade and subs) 8. The stock 18" wheels suck (will require 19") 9. The stock didn't come with C.F. (will require lots of C.F. inside and outside) .....so get the E9X ///M3, but plan to have another $10K in the bank for upgrades...on a, at best, a 7 year old car....just saying! EDIT: This is above and beyond the normal wear and tear items you'll need to do during your first 1500 mile break in on the new engine....as the last thing you want to hear are those bearing clicking at month 25.... |

If they have documentation of new engine and warranty signed in black and white, then the E9x is a no-brainer. I would do rod bearings from the get go and use Ceratec religiously to maintain the health of the main bearings.
Shame we never get these kinds of deals here in Canada.
