quick question

Didnt know where to post this so i am gonna start a quick mini thread that should die real soon:

Do we have a United States Press release in June July?
it is confusing the crap out of me....

Do we have any info on United States events at all yet?
should we expect to see a "concept" of United States E92 M3

I heard a rumour over on another forum that BMW US were having to revise the press release, something to do with the power output on US spec M3s being reduced after failing to meet Californian emission standards.

I didn't want to say anything for fear of being shot down, but there is definitely no smoke without fire. I wouldn't bank on the full horses stateside.

Well, if they have to drop the power in the US, I don't see any way they could charge the amounts of money we've been talking about (i.e. 60K or greater base).

I am sure most buyers would prefer a $59k price tag and 380bhp rather than 420bhp and a $65k price tag, sure a few people would rather have the ponies but most seem far more price sensative in the states from what I can see?

I was thinking more like $59k for 420 and $54k for 380 . But yeah, I know I'm price sensative. Paying more that $60k is going to make the uphill battle of conving my wife MUCH more difficult.

If they drop the power below 400 and performance suffers measurably, I'll be shopping for an alternative set of wheels.

Surely the M3 emissions will be no greater than say that of a F430 or any other high performance car, you do have those in Cal. Can someone explain, is it a tax issue if you fail the law?

if the BHP drops below 400-405 I'm going to have to reconsider. Pity, because I was completely set on the e92.

I thought in the BMW press releases it already said it made the US emission laws.
If this horrible rumour is true, then I will definately be hard looking at something else. Might even take a litte more time and forgo my reserved spot at the dealer. There were already some aspects of the car I wasn't too keen on, interior color choices, lack of noticeable rear fender flare, muffler showing, rear bumper, but I was still hanging tough. This news might put me over the top. Kinda sad, but I want to be immensenly happy with spending $65-$70k.

Ok, ok... a short confession.

Those of us living in the tough, mean streets called 'RoW', were getting a little itchy hearing you guys in the US complaining about perhaps having to pay $55k (ooh, wow!), which let me just remind you is virtually HALF of what we will be paying in the UK.

So we thought we would shoot back, right where it hurts. Where it hurts bad.

It was too much of a temptation. Sorry.

p.s. at least we won't have to accept those orange coloured indicator lenses you love so much...

We both communicate using the English language, but I have NO IDEA of what you are saying. I mean, literally none. Something about price, but that is it. Very very strange.

Really? I don't think he used any odd phrases or terms. RoW = rest of the world if that helps any.

@Steved,

Good one

I thought that the car had met US emissions as well. If they drop the HP from 414 to 413, I'll be shopping for another car.

What are these other forums where people are hearing this? Would like to check them out for any evidence of credibility.

Nice one Steve. I am all about having some jokes especially on a fairly serious forum. You got me pretty bad. Some time ago I posted a totally hideous riced out car with the body kit from hell some time ago with the a title something like "Totally exposed - 2008 M3" in the photos forum. Needless to say the admins moved my post. Better watch out for that!

On a serious note your whining about your price does not take into account average pay differences does it? If for example the average person doing a professional job X pays Y dollars per year in the US wouldn't it be true that in the UK the Y figure would be substantially larger?
