Aftermarket Charge Pipes - flex section ?

Hi,

I checked over and over, it seems to me that the current charge pipes like Envy, AP, etc. have no flex-sections.

Now, if it's like this how can the engine turn to the right side without stressing the charge pipe / filter housing when you rev it ? The air filter housing is not supposed to buffer any movements. Did I miss something ?

Thanks for your feedback.

Correction: Dinan has a "flex section". If you want to see how much the engine moves to side, there are enough youtube videos where people rev the envine of our M3's. IMO the missing flexibility could damage the pipe itself, in worst case it slips off and unfiltered air could get into the engine.

So Dinan has the only proper constructed CP ? Hard to believe.

This is not my intension but it does not harm to know about the need of flex sections of the CP.

In addition most install a CP and a high flow airfilter, getting ( questionable ? ) 8-13 hp. The airfilter alone should provide 5-8 hp. Is a CP worth the hassle ? Do we have dyno confirmations ?

BTW, I had fun to mod my former 335i and it provided quite good power. I really hesitate to start modding the M3 (power-wise), it's already a very nice tuned car stock. Supercharger, stroker engine ? YES ... but later, much later .

That's what we liked about the Dinan intake. The Dinan kit also comes with a new filter.

If Dinan and Gruppe M uses the flex section, that says something about needing it.

BMW wouldn't just put in things on the car just for bells and whistles when it comes to motor work.

I don't think PYSpeed would input much as they are just a reseller, it would have to be tecnocraft that would have to talk as it is their product, pyspeed is just the middle man.

when the engine is revved hard, there's definitely significant movement and the flex sections accommodate this movement. i think the envy chargepipe would be under a lot of stress all the time if there is no flex section present. i would be afraid of cracking that could occur on the charge pipe due to prolonged fatigue over time.

however, this of course is just my opinion, i have yet to see or read a thread where a charge pipe did indeed crack.

I have been running my tecnocraft Charpipe for about 4k miles with no issues of cracking to date and havent heard of anything of the sort yet. When tecnocraft was originally designing the pipe on my car i actually brought this issue up to them and what they showed me was that the airbox itself also flexes so even though the pipe is stiff the airbox gives enough flex to accommodate for the engine movement. I was still skeptical at that but its been a while now and their have been no reported issues. Hope that helps you

not really hard to believe. that is why it took Dinan so long to come out with there intake, bc they actually did something called R&D. i am so sick of these flake companies producing shit thats right shit and customers spend there hard earned money on it. and just bc there a sponsor here or there or someone got one for free people kiss the ground they walk on and all of a sudden there a great company. lmao please

people love to talk shit about Dinan and how bad they are and how they don't do this and don't do that and there stuff is hype yada yada

hmm seems like Dinan is the only one with a clue of whats up, and still standing strong all these years later. it says something when BMW lets a company sell aftermarket products in there dealerships no??

i was happy to pay the premium for there intake knowing what was going into my car and not having to wonder if the thing would hurt it etc

just makes you wonder how many other products out there for our cars from companies that did little to no R&D and is just a crap product. people make fun of me bc i put Dinan stuff on my car. well i never gave a shit what people think and i don't plan to start. i sleep at night knowing my car has a good product on it.

good luck to everyone who bought something else and hope it stands up to the claims from the company and if not they will stand behind the product

At the risk of sounding like a tecnocraft fan boy i think you guys need to think about something. A couple cars have been dyno'd with the tecnocraft charge pipe and shown great gains. others have lost power, however, for the cars that have lost power when looking at the air fuel ratio it was not at the normal reading, but this is something that can be adjusted with a proper tune. All of our cars will respond differently to a mod. Just because one person gained 20hp from an exhaust does not mean the next guy will. Our cars are very picky, a custom tune for one car will not run gain the same Hp for another car with the same mods. I think that because more people have bought the tecnocraft pipe over the dinan is the only reason we have not seen any dyno loses of the dinan piece. As more people purchase the dinan piece im willing to bet some people will lose hp and its not because of the product, its the car. the only real difference between the parts are the size ( Tecnocraft is bigger ) and the flex sections, besides that they have the same concept.
