2008 E90 M3 with 70k kilometers and a catastrophic clutch failure.

One disk disintegrated. I was on the track at the time, but with only a dozen track days and no racing, a lifetime of experience driving manuals, I have to conclude it was defective disk. Nicely outside of my comprehensive extended warranty too.

I have 08 and 50K mileage, and it's still running good. BTW, just added clutch stop, and I recommend it to all 6MTs!!!!

My shifting and ride became much more smooth and I can sit further from the steering wheel. All that for $10!!! Must mod for all 6MTs!!

I have 85xxx miles and clutch still operates nicely. Several track days. I think my flywheels is giving out. its noisy. its common for dual mass flywheel to get noisy when worn. I'll be replacing soon with stock one

They're noisy when fine also.

People should easily be getting 100k+ from the OEM clutch.

You pretty much deserved it, you're just coming across as an ignorant jerk. There's not a lot of information on this forum aside from some suspension/brake info plus wheel data. No one here does their own work and so they generally don't make threads about it. I've NEVER seen a thread talking about clutch longevity.

EDIT: I shouldn't bother responding to posts that are over 2 years old lol

I'm at almost 81k miles on mine, pretty sure its OE. About 8k miles supercharged now. No slip, no fuss. Occasionally rattles a bit at low speeds in 1st when disengaging it. I attribute it to racecar sounds, like the blower whine and V8 roar

I have 102,000 miles and about 30 track days and mine is still fine. I learned to rev match and heel and toe on this clutch and I do so daily.

I bought an e93 used so not sure if the previous owner learned to drive stick on the car or what but mine failed at 45k. The way mine failed was a real hazard too. The clutch stayed on the floor and when pushing the start button the car started to "drive itself" moving forward without me putting on the gas! I was lucky not to hit the pole I was parked in front of. Pulled the petal up by hand and then let the car sit a while and was able to get it on the tow truck.

I too found out about the flywheel replacement req at this time. I think it cost me a 2 grand to replace clutch and flywheel at a local Indy shop.

Hopefully the 405 traffic hasn't lessened the life of my clutch?

Yea the stock clutch it pretty solid in these cars, even running a ess 625 kit the clutch handles it without a hiccup.
Also not much in the way of aftermarket clutches for this car unless your tracking, super stiff clutch that you cant slip not so great for city traffic!

So bring this thread back to life, I need to update my last post. After about 2k more miles, my throw out bearing let go.

Was in heavy traffic in Orlando when my clutch pedal didn't come back when I depressed it. Ended up pumping it and was able to get going. After I heard a pop, the engagement became VERY stiff and squealed a lot.

Got it home by riding 6th on the interstate the whole way. But pulled the transmission and I found that the throw out bearing had disintegrated. The bearing housing was in 5 pieces along with a lot of ball bearings. Ball bearings were in the clutch as were ribbons of metal; it might have been ok but I'm sure its shelf life would have been shorted. The dual-mass flywheel also had a bunch of bearing noises inside of it.

So as part of my phase 2 upgrade, I'm replacing all the clutch parts including use of a Spec TwinDisk and UCP. CDV removal is done as well, the clutch action should be vastly improved now.

But my TOB went out with about 84k miles.

Your TOB should have given some audible warning before it went out, generally a chatter/click sound when the clutch is out (pedal down). You'll notice the CDV is hollow, and has no function in the M3 aside from being a placeholder.

I can't recall it being any louder than normal. There was a bit of vibration in the clutch pedal; but that has come and gone over the past 10k miles.

CDV was hollow but still smaller diameter than the normal clutch line. It's gone now either way

You'll love the UCP, one of the best mods to date!

I hope so. I'm almost as excited about about the UCP as the VT2-650 blower

I used to use their nylon pedal bushings, but the actual pedal is leaps and bounds over the stock pedal.

Glad to see all the positive reviews of the UCP. Mine just hit customs last week and should be in my hands this week!

Really now? Hmmm, maybe it's time to do some more modding again
