Dinan sale today.. Question regarding Underdrive

Pulley from Dinan..I recently purchased the Dinan engine and trans software and I am pleased with the gains... Is the underdrive pulley worth $700 parts/labor for the gains or is it better to save up for a BMW M exhaust? Which one will give better gains in hp?

I have the Dinan pulley and would do it again. I believe Dinan rates it at 11hp. Not sure I can feel 11hp but the car seems to feel better/rev easier at higher rpms with the pulley. Feels more like it frees up power than adds power.

In terms of the M exhaust, there are no hp gains.

That's quite a bit of coin for a pulley.

Probably half of that is labor. I paid $200 for a used pulley 5 years ago and spent a few hours installing it — my first engine mod for this car. It should add as much or more power than a rear exhaust but it won’t make the car sound more powerful.

Yes it is worth the money and you don't get gains with a rear axle exhaust.
its a simple install and you can feel the improvement from low to mid rpm's range.
100% worth the investment

Only if you install the pulley yourself and not pay labor.

If you want gains, for 700, I'd get test pipes and another stock xpipe (so you can swap back to stock at a later time).

This. Delete the primary cats and for a small upgrade cost you can have Dinan upgrade your tune. You will gain another 20-25 wheel over your stage 1 on cats.

The pulley is nice and you will get a minor up in power but it's not as transformative as test pipes. Test pipes is more power and sound.

I have an EVOSport pulley which is practically the same thing as the Dinan one. There is a response in the throttle for sure and the car seems to rev up easier. That being said, the Dinan one is over-priced.

They are all similar in terms of gains. There is a thread with all the drive reductions somewhere. Dinan might be the most reduction. The only thing I would avoid is a proprietary belt — AA may require a hard to find belt.

I have not seen advertised Dinan Tune HP numbers that high. I have seen their ad stating around 8 to 10 HP. Is the 25HP with a stage 2 tune?

Stage 2 catless tune + test pipes = 30-35whp

Stage 1 w/ cats = 9-10hp over stock

Dinan does not sell stage 2 anymore. Not emission compliant. No longer on their website.

$300 isn't a bad price for the Dinan

Dinan is 8 to 10hp for the $300. Good deals out there for more HP and TQ by tuners on M3Post.

Underdrive pulleys makes a noticeable bump that you can feel by freeing up parasitic losses.

It’s also not exclusive of other upgrades or tunes.

I'm glad I went with one from M3Post. Dinan customer service seems to be lacking as of late at one of their local shops

I just had my pulley installed and cost me $525 total including labor. One thing with the Dinan pulley is that the belt is so tight that it took my mechanic hours to get it to fit. Almost thought Dinan sent the wrong belt because it was almost 1/2 inch short but he finally managed to get it in. I do feel a slight difference and thought it was worth the money. Dinan said the pulley was a healthy upgrade without risking any damages to the motor. Pulley was $305 on https://getbmwparts.com because of the 20% off deal which ends this month. If it wasn't for the sale I would've went with the Macht Schnell or Turners.

Everyone seems to have problems installing the Dinan due to the belt but once installed no one complains.
