ROWE 10w60 engine oil?
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...e-mahle-515684
So FCP Euro offers 3 engine oil change kits using 3 different 10w60 engine oils Rowe Liquimoly BMW (M Twin power turbo) I searched on this forum and there is ZERO thread on Rowe oil of course it may be buried in some other thread but i just couldn't find anything right away As far as Liqui Moly goes, i see almost everyone mention that it's "loud" in the S65 Are people using the Rowe oil? Recommend it?

I can't really give any info on the Rowe, but the Liqui Moly I have used to top up in the M. I do use it in my '08 R1200GS Adventure and it is no noisier than using 0w40 or 15w50 mobil 1. That engine has the adjustable rockers and air/oil cooled with the heads just out in the breeze, so it's super easy to hear the clatter going on.

Equivalent to the others you listed. Rowe is not some crazy boutique oil, they're just another German blender like Liqui-Moly. I would just run the BMW/Shell oil since you know it meets their spec.

In all honesty, majority of the oils out there are the same. The frequency of oil changes should be your concern on the S65.

Just did an oil change using the Rowe kit to replace Liqui Moly that had 4k miles on it and I don't think it's noticeably quieter than Liqui Moly. You can't really measure it so it could be all in my head, but it feels like the engine is running more smoothly at low to medium speeds as it's warming up. I have a track day coming up in a month so I'll see how it behaves under load, but I'm not expecting it to be any better or worse than the popular alternatives at this point.
The Shell and Castrol oils were quieter for me. |

thanks for the responses
decided to just stick to the BMW oil even though it costs more upfront since I'm looking forward to using the free replacement going forward the extra cost will become a nonfactor after a few oil changes

Over the last 5 fuel fill ups, I've noticed a 0.1 mpg decrease in fuel economy compared to the Liqui Moly and Shell oils. That's the only (insignificant) drawback.

I wish I could find the OG data but I did read something about the oils and their sheer factor # and it was something along the lines of:
Mobil 1 15w50 - 13,000 Liqui Moly 10w60 - 18,000 BMW/Shell 10w60 - 22,500 That can be directly related to the amount of Zinc in the oil, so it would be interesting to see where the Valvoline VR1 oil stands up against them. After reading that article though, it's why I have stayed with the BMW oil for the change intervals. YMMV

I'm not sure I understand the connection between zinc and shear. A better way to gauge an oil's shear resistance is: HTHS (already @ 150 C) ------ Dynamic Viscosity @ 150 C Higher numbers are better, but this is only an approximation. You will need to calculate the dynamic viscosity by multiplying the kinematic viscosity @ 150 C by the density (which is already measured at 150 C). TWS, for example, has shear resistance of about 0.81, but Red Line 5w30 is 0.92. A few of the Motul 300V and Renewable Lube choices are 0.88-0.95!

Not true. The European oils meet higher specifications. I talk to the Total Oil Rep at least once per week. He knows oil and can state each of the specification and he will tell you that US oil don't need to meet as high a spec as the Europeans.

I can't recommend the Rowe oil. Maybe I got a bad batch, but it runs much hotter on the track than Liqui Moly or the Shell oils. It was getting to 270 degrees F before I started backing off on a cooler day than my previous track days. Gas mileage was down to an average of 18.4 mpg after the one easy track day whereas it's normally 19.1-19.2.
I changed it over to the OE Shell oil and track temperatures are back to what I was expecting. |

The Shell oil is 5.4 and Liqui Moly is around 3.5 (??? https://pim.liqui-moly.de/pidoc/P000...60-23.0-us.pdf ) so that would make sense. |
