Well finally decided just to order the ECS Tuning Euro switch instead of messing around inside the unit. Hopefully have it soon and I can start blinding those people who drive around on clear nights with front fog lights 'cause it looks "cool". (Just kidding.)

Edit - Switch came today, ordered it on Sunday. Hopefully install it this weekend.

I installed the switch today. I ordered the ECS Euro Switch M3 chrome, $119.95 including shipping:

http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-M3-...tch/ES1899562/

I used a set of Harbor Freight auto trim tools (on sale for $6.49) and levered the upper trim piece out first gently, then the lower assembly. I saw the lip on the lower assembly and belive if you can remove the upper (it comes out slowly) that is an easier install, but YMMV.

Picture below is just after the upper trim was removed, showing old switch in place.

Tested and works great, DAMN those lights are bright lol.

I decided to swap a Euro unit in yesterday instead of doing the mod to the stock switch. 7 minutes total swap
elapsed time ( no lunch break involved )

If I plan to do this, I prefer to do it this way. Paying $119 is nothing compared to paying for a brand new M3.

Also you will have an OEM European switch :-)

Rear fogs

Just completed this. The rear fogs integrate with existing electronics well in that they go off (rear fogs) with the auto on-off position / high beam - so no need to worry about remembering if your going to inadvertently leave them on - when they shouldn't be. Easiest aftermarket install ever - a caveman could do it! (I know because I did).

Your lights must on for it to work. It doesn't turn on unless your headlights are on. Daylight Running Lights are not counted.

Crude cell phone pictures but it worked on my '08. Spent about a hour with a dremel shaping the wood to work haha. Really a pointless mod in my opinion but why not lol. Might get used a few times for kicks. They're bright.

Doesn't work even when headlights are on at night. Bmw must have left something out on these new 2013 models. Can anyone tell me what it might be missing? A fuse maybe? The mod was done 100% correct and the button functions, I just get nothing when I press it. Any help would be much appreciated

Merry Christmas all

Not sure then. I too have a 2013 model and it works as advertised. No issues at all.

Found the problem
I took everything apart again and saw that the wiring harness wasn't plugged in all the way. The grey lever wasn't locked down all the way. As soon as I locked it Down, it worked.

Great mod. Finally it paid off

Completed this mod on my 2013 E92 M3. Worked as described! Pulled both trim pieces off with bare hands! Thanks for the write up!

Just completed this on my 08, had to use the lego concept to get it to work. I used a bic pen cap glued to a strip of an old credit card to form the T, Overall, I likely will only use this in the handful times when driving through heavy rain.

Tried this on my '08 and was getting inconsistent results with the switch, so I modified the Lego to this mess.

Now it works like a charm every time. Thanks for the DIY!

wow, that is one reinforced lego piece! lol.

I suspect mine could fall off anytime. I use a filed down Bic pen cap glued to a piece of an old credit card. All held together by glue stick glue.

Problem is, I don't have a kid, so I'm not going to go buy some legos just to do this. A week after performing the mod, I went to Target, found a Lego clearance bin, and BONANZA, a million loose lego pieces in the bottom of the bin. I took enough to make my T, so I'm just waiting for my piece to fall off before putting the lego piece in. Carefully removing that trim without a trim removal kit is a major PITA.

About to do this tomorrow..when I installed my LCI lights today they just appeared on..strange. But the orange sign isn't on my dash that they're on yet they're still on. Great write up, a lot more clearer and easier than most out there. So did you need to buy the second white button extension or it's in there?
