front fenders - metal or plastic?

Just got my car back from the body shop and noticed my front fenders felt and sounded different. They needed to be replaced due to an accident. I looked it up and seems all post say the fenders are plastic but I can swear the originals were metal. I have a 2008 by the way in case they changed materials at some point.

Nah. They had to replace both sides. Just had the feeling it was supposed to be metal. The place I went to doesn't do custom work like that either. They wouldn't even fix a cosmetic scratch on my front lip since it was CF. I didnt care about the appearance since I had it painted flat black anyway. And all covered under insurance.

They're all plastic then. Maybe just the install it might be a difference in tension.

Just a feeling. Not as solid I guess and sound. But I guess just remembering another car and most cars I've driven had metal fenders. Only looking at it more closely now to inspect their work and just noticing it was plastic threw me off.

Non-Ms had metal fenders for the E90 and E91.
E92 and E93's Non-M and M's all had plastic fenders.

Why do you think they did that? Other than BMW just doing their thing as always

What's the value of metal fenders on performance car? Unnecessary weight.

I'd prefer metal for seamless appearance of paint and orange peel, but oh well.
