Bay area cops and radar

I don't know if something is up with my Passport 8500 or whether there is some new technology cops are using now, but on two recent instances, one in Mountain View and one driving on 580 around Hayward area, a cop was pulled over aiming what clearly looked like a radar gun but my Ka didn't go off. It wasn't laser either as I have the X50 which goes nuts when hit with laser. Any ideas?

Maybe he was blow drying his hair?
