Need rear brakes in 300 miles

Hey guys,

I guess this kinda came up without notice. I just got the service warning for my rear brakes and need new rotors and brake pads. Is anyone selling a set? This could also be the perfect time to upgrade.

BMW Northwest just quoted me $1400 for the rears. But I definitely can DIY.

Let me know.

Thanks

Ton of people on here selling. Depends on what you want and what you want to pay. Everything from Stoptech to a sweet Brembo GTR full set (that I'd buy if I had an extra $7k). Check the FS and/or put up a WTB.

Don't go to big rears without changing the fronts. I put wilwoods on my camaro when I changed the rear (drum to disc conversion) with stock fronts and got some happy/scary back end wiggle under hard braking. Best of luck!

I was hoping for local pick up but I guess my best bet would be to have them shipped used from a member on this forum.

Thanks guys

I don't think its a good idea to run a more aggressive pad on the rear than the front

Please elaborate. From what I've read, HPS pads have slightly more bite than OEM.

Read what I wrote above. There is a reason that front brakes are always bigger. When you are slowing, weight transfers to the front and lifts from the rear. The extra bite in the rear will lock the rear tires before the front, which has additional weight over it due to the transfer. Your front tires stick harder and can take additional brake bite. The rear should never (we are talking "normal situations, straight line braking") be stronger than the front.

Ex: look at the size difference on your front and rear brakes.

My camaro - stock front discs, rear drums. When I put big rear discs on, I had an unbalanced car under hard braking.

Oh man I didn't know my fronts brakes were bigger. That's crazy.

I'm sticking to OEM rotors in the rear. Not necessarily an upgrade with HPS pads. But I guess I will either buy HPS pads for the front or OEM pads from the dealer when my new shit gets delivered.

Thank you for your input.

Might be just fine =) My example was a HUGE improvement that put the rear brakes in a completely different class than the fronts.

Any brake set is designed to be balanced, with fronts being built dominant. Upgrading the front set is always a safer bet than the rear, but preferred to be done together in sets that were created to work together.

Now if you liked a different balance in your car, or were in to certain types of racing, this all goes out the window haha If you really want to get used to balance transfer, do some rally (if you haven't). I personally love DirtFish - http://www.dirtfish.com/ Really gets you to respect weight transfer.

Enjoy the new brakes! I wish mine would wear out so I could upgrade haha
