If the dsc light isn't flashing is it still acting?
Maybe a dumb question. I searched, and read the manual but old threads and non-specific answers didn't help
So, when leaving DSC on entirely, or in MDM even, is the computer actively working the rear brakes independently of my foot when the light IS NOT flashing? Obviously if the light starts blinking its a good indication that the computers are playing with my rear brakes...but when it's not flashing are they doing the same? |

Actually not a dumb question at all. If you do search, you'll find that this topic has been discussed before.
IMO, yes, DSC/MDM can make quick interventions without flashing the light in the cluster. Running over some road imperfection at full throttle, I could feel the car cutting back on power without seeing the flashing DSC icon. It is even more obvious on the track, where you can feel DCS/MDM holding you back with no light flashing. FYI, DSC/MDM works on all four corners, so rear AND front brakes can be applied depending on the correction that is required. It can also reduce throttle input when needed. An ESC supplier I work with cuts up to 10% of engine power without lighting any dash light. Naturally the M3's ESC could have different thresholds, but having some intervention without driver notification seems like a common practice.

Awesome. Thanks for the helpful responses. I feel like I get it triggering sometimes when accelerating away from a stop light fairly normally, but it doesn't flash the light so I wasn't sure. I didn't notice it much (at least I didn't at the time) when I was on the track with MDM on, but I'll pay more attention next time. I know it's keeping me safe but it almost sucks if its eating pads when not really needed.
