Excessive hub runout

I have a bad steering wheel shimmy and a pulsing feeling on brake application. Thought it was pad imprinting. Turns out that hub runout is measured at .004 inch where spec is .001 inch (?). Rotor runout is .007. I think this is my problem and throwing another set of rotors on the car won't be the solution.

Any thoughts?

Hub turns freely with no other obvious issues.

It should be noted the right front corner took a serious curb blow at 40 mph which was enough to trash the wheel. This was probably 5 years ago.

Anyway to fix this without replacing the hub? I have read about rotor spacers for other vehicles but unsure if this a reasonable solution for an M3. I see that a new hub is only 180 on FCP so probably not a big deal to throw a new hub on if this makes sense. From the parts picture , it looks like this is a really simple 4 bolts out, 4 bolts in change. Not like the old days of hub change on my e30 M3.

Thanks,

Joe

If the surface on hub is clean and your dial indicator is good, 0,004 direct on hub is a lot. I would replace it for sure. You may look to upgrade to F80 hub at the same time if you track the car.

Once I typed this all out, I pretty quickly realized I just need a new hub. The good news is I don't have to replace pads and rotors which have at least 20k of life left.

Is that the front right hub run out? Any run out measurements for the front left?

Front right knuckle part number is 31212283436 just in case that sustained damage during the 40 MPH curb incident.

The new front hub runout is less than .001 inch. Haven't measured the left.

just replace the wheel bearing? A bent hub wouldn't cause runout. It would skew your alignment but the wheel spins on the wheel bearing and runout is measured from the face of the wheel bearing.

That being said, Ebay might have a complete spindle + wheel bearing assembly if you find that easier to just swap the whole thing.

I have a pair of spindles with good bearings in them if you are looking.
