I have this on my DCT and the difference is huge. anyone who says otherwise must be smoking some good tire fumes.
Alright good, yeah it was impossible to get a Torque meter so it was hand-tighten TAF.

My car is putting down power to the road better. the car is turning in better cause the diff seems to be working better with shaft pushing the car through the bend. to get the rear to break loose I now need to be more aggressive with inputs and still the car will regain composure easily. I can put the power down earlier cause I have better grip where as before I had to wait cause the rear would step out. If u pussy your car around obviously you won't notice these changes.

I'm not sure if this is mentioned in the 17 pages of this thread but...is there any other maintenance items that you would combo with this driveshaft upgrade?
I'm planning on doing this in combo with Slonik's DCT oil pan and side cover. Just wondering if anything else need to be addressed while I have the shop under the car in that area.

But while you're down there, maybe swap your motor and tranny mounts too. |

lol the motor mounts definitely are not a “while you’re in there” item when you’re doing a driveshaft
My old trans mounts looked new when I took them out at 89k because I listened to the internet and changed them “while I was in there” on another job

I agree. Almost no overlap besides being under the car for motor mounts. Trans mounts will probably look brand new.

Thanks for everyone's reply. Will probably just swap in and do the exhaust heat wrap then.

Would it be reasonable to expect a titanium exhaust wouldn't require heat wrap?

It’s the area not covered by the factory heat shield. But it’s also so far back there is not as much heat there, especially if the x pipe is catless.

Notes from my install:
- I recommend having a friend to help. It took 3 people 4 hours and that wasn’t with a ton of dawdling just some “first time” tool finding and head scratching here and there. I would have been thrashing for 3x as long bexause there are so many steps just to get old out and new in - The factory heat shield on my E90 completely covers the diff input flange. There is zero line of sight for exhaust heat to get to the driveshaft. Take a look under your car before you buy heat wrap. - If you have solid diff bushings I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but room to move my diff ain’t one - loosening the front diff bolts gave me plenty of room to maneuver - giubo end first, then diff end - bring two more jacks than you think you need for the job and you won’t run out and have to muscle anything - it makes a difference but I don’t think it’s the transformative change some people have noticed. If anything it just feels less broken than a car with 122,000 miles feels, less windup, less clunk. Accel in gear seems better but how would I quantify it? The biggest difference is NVH. Can’t hear the diff whine at all anymore. Clearly a lot more damping going on

Impressions after 200 miles -
Zero vibration up to information deleted mph. My car did not use special diff bolts. That broken feeling the driveline has from the factory on 6MT’s which we all know and have come to tolerate and is not exactly friendly even when brand new, is pretty much gone. Less slop, less clunk, shifting process in normal driving smoother and easier to accomplish without shocking the drivetrain. You could induce a clunk in the drivetrain in Sport throttle with the stock shaft, the throttle snapped open and closed so fast, but it doesn’t do it now that some of the stock windup/slop is gone. My car still has the original clutch and it feels like this could extend its life. Shifts just require a lot less attention than they did before. There was, at first, a slight resonance as the car pulls through 7000 rpm that wasn’t there before when you’re at WOT. It wasn't unpleasant but it was different and new. I also installed a new giubo during this job, and this noise is becoming less noticeable with each trip to redline, so I'm wondering if this is just an artifact of a brand new, never-flexed giubo working itself out. My car has always had a pronounced diff whine at 40-50mph since it was brand new and it has never really changed. It has 122,000 miles on it so I just sortof became accustomed to it. The diff is still just barely audible at those speeds when coasting in gear but otherwise the whine is gone. This is on stock bushings. Now that I’ve had it out and about the transition from Decel to accel is noticeably more immediate. This is the whole point of this mod, but Now that I’ve driven it a while I’m surprised at how obvious the difference is, you really can feel it. I was not expecting to notice an acceleration difference. If you buy a 6MT M3 with one of these on it, and somebody puts a stock driveshaft on without your knowledge, you'll immediately wonder if something broke. I was expecting to feel nothing or maybe get some NVH benefits, I am honestly surprised at how much difference I noticed in how the car behaves. I wouldn’t think you’d notice the difference unless you drove the same car before and after, but it definitely has improved the car well beyond the 10lb of weight lost on the scales, which for me was worth it all on its own.
