Get rid of the e92 for f82?

Having a slight issue with the e92 and nobody seems to figure out whats wrong with the car. Anyways thinking about getting into an f80/82.
Will i regret leaving the v8?

I just purchased my E92 M3. Listening to the exhaust on the F82 pushed me towards the E92. Seeing the F82 in person and watching vids of it kill the E92 on the track makes me want to get it. If your E92 is having problems, honestly, I'd use it as an excuse to get into an F82.

Thats the only thing keeping me back. The sound of the v8. Tough one.

Simply in terms of a comparison between the e92 and f8x, I’ve owned both and am going back to e92.

I like the looks better, and the driving experience.

The engine sounds much better and the throttle response is much sharper. It’s a more dynamic experience. The s55 has limited character in terms of power delivery and sound, it’s not for me.

The f8x is also a very large car and feels it on the road.

Finally, the ride is very flinty on the f8x and body control is not great, and the car feels overly stiff and oversprung. The suspension tuning is just not very good.

To me, I prefer the e92 in almost all aspects that matter to me.

But for sheer pace the f8x is in another league in stock form.

Have you test driven an F82 yet? If not go do so. I had the same idea as you last year and took one out for a test drive. Other than the tech inside the car, I hated it. Exhaust note was terrible, they pump fake exhaust noise through the speakers, the power delivery was terrible, and the steering was numb. It felt like a very fast Toyota Camry to me

But then again that's just my opinion. Everyone likes different things. Give it a test drive.

Test drove the f80. It is an amazing car. Not sure if it is worth the trade.🤔

Most people are doing the opposite, selling their F8x and going back to E9x

I had an F80 - awesome car. Performance, looks, tech, it’s got it. Loved it. But then I got an E92 M3... & traded in the F80 a couple of months later. To me the driving experience in the E92 was much better. Might not be as fast or have the latest tech but it sure is fun to drive. The tech is nice to have in the F8X if it is your DD, but as long as you have Bluetooth I would personally go E92. But I also have an ‘18 GTR in the garage for when I need that turbo goodness so take all that for what it is worth (not much...).

One thing that got real old on my F80 was hearing my wife giggle every time it farted... and Lord help you if you put an exhaust on it (I had mpe) - it only just farts louder. Spend just a short time around any F8X and you will know what I mean...

Might miss the v8 sound, but you will like the torque and power of the f80/f82.

I highly doubt that is accurate. *Some* people are selling their F8x and going back to the E9x, most people are still moving on to the newer car.

V8 sound + F8x power = supercharged S65. Have your cake and eat it too.

Its not fake news it's facts! Drove the new f80/f82 multiple times and the steering and throttle response is very good in sport plus mode, everyone has their own opinion about it. Don't wanna start another e9x vs f8x battle on here since the dude just asked about our opinions!

I stood before this decision a year and a half ago:
I visited BMW M Intensive Training at Eurospeedway Lausitz. M2 and M4 were the cars BMW presented for the training.
Yes, the M4 has more power, yes the M2 is nicer to drive in handling parcour.

But I just did not have the emotion
The spark simply did not want to skip the sound
And just this sound while driving makes so much emotion for me
The turbos all sound the same für me

After the training I was happy to drive home the 500 km with my old sheet pile

The only car I`m willing to trade my E92 is E90 M3.
Sopmetimes a saloon is more easily to handle with little kids
But when I think about how much money I spent in my E92, and the starting again from zero= no I will keep it

While my E92 does have super sharp throttle response, you only really notice it when you're revving in N. When you're on the road, when I stab the throttle it almost feels like turbo lag because of the low torque the engine produces. In order for it to move quickly, you need to keep the engine on boil all the time, 5K+

The S55 in the F80 is a masterpiece, sure when you're sitting in N and revving the motor the response isn't as sharp as the S65 but on the road, it's ready to GO at any RPM. In sport and sport+ it has an anti-lag system, the turbos are spinning at high RPMs even after you let off the throttle so it's ready to go when you hit the throttle, no turbo lag. Power doesn't die off either, it pulls harder and harder all the way to redline, unlike other turbo motors that tend to die off on the top end.

I say go for it! You only live once and mighty as well experience as many cars as possible.

I recently drove a friend’s f80 m3 again and love the power delivery. The torque is massive compared to the s65 and much more usable as a daily driver. Stock for stock an s55 would smoke an e90/92 no matter what you read on this forum. Also, the interior is much nicer in my opinion.

But, the exhaust noises are weak compared to the s65 music. Personally, I don’t like the farting sounds a modded s55 makes. Then again, this is just one aspect of a very impressive sports coupe/sedan.

If overall performance is important to you, an f80/82 is a great choice.

Good luck on your decision

Yes exactly that is what I find as well, pulls very hard from low rpm all the way to redline, with no lag in throttle response at all. S65 engine needs to be revved out a lot in city driving for it to move quickly.

How would you rate the E92 if it had a ESS 625 kit on it?

Is the power delivery so different that it would be comparing apples to oranges?

When the S65 gets force induction, you get more power and still hear it sing. Granted the torque on the F82 is much better than even a S65 with a blower can put down.

It's definitely hard because they are completely different cars and I have extensive time behind the wheel on the road and track in both. I like them both for different reasons. E92 because of the V8. It is infectious. The F82 has a better power band, more easily tunable and better fuel mileage for sure. Just depends how bad your issue is. My vote is to keep the E92 but it depends how much $ you need to dump into it

I've never driven a supercharged E9x but I bet I would enjoy it very much! Tons of power and an 8400 redline? Sounds like a dream.

As tempting as it is to supercharge my E92, I think I will keep it naturally aspirated. I think the naturally aspirated V8 really adds to the character of the car. Now if it was my only car, I would seriously consider doing an ESS kit because I do crave more power sometimes when I drive it.
