I'm expecting my shipment of BE rod bearings & bolts this week and I too am looking at shops for the install. Other forum members spoke highly of Ian at I.S. Garage, but haven't heard back from him yet.

So is Group 2 quoting ~$1250 for the rod bearings install only, or including the motor mounts. I've got a set of the Group N replicas from bimmerworld that I'm going to install at the same time.

Also, does Group 2 use plastigauge to measure the bearing clearances during the service?

sounds like there's a few of us that's ready to do this relatively soon. Wondering if any of these shops would be willing to do a GB for labor? I'd be in if theres even a little bit of savings.

But yes, I'm dropping mine off Tuesday morning for BE bearings and bolts. What are you going with for mounts, jiggz ?
I'm going with OEM. John said someone else was doing an aftermarket motor mount...was that you?

I spoke to Ian, among other shops. Nice guy, spent some time with me on the phone. His hourly rate was lower but total cost quite a bit more, equaled out to 16 or so hours labor. But perhaps he'd give you a different #? Also, his shop is moving, again, this time down to Kent in mid-February, which is not convenient for me. But I'd trust him to do the work based on my conversation and feedback from others on this forum.

The ~$1250 did not include the motor mounts as I added those after the fact, but was quoted .5 hours, maybe 1, to do the mounts.

Most shops mentioned plastigauge when I spoke with them. I should double check that with G2 though, as I can't recall for certain.

Great idea, you should lead that effort When I drop my car off I can casually ask about that. I know at G2 they only have 2 guys qualified to do this work and they're booked up a ways out, so not sure they could fit in a slew of S65s. But there's lots of shops around...

$1250 sounds about right for labor, given that this service from reputable shops that are also forum sponsors (ACM on the East Coast, EAS in Cali, etc.) costs anywhere from $2000 to $2500 with the cost of the replacement rod bearings and rod bolts themselves included in the cost.

Happy for you fellas that are getting it done, congrats on the newfound peace of mind!

I was going back and forth between OEM and Vibra-Technics, but I think I am leaning more towards OEM since I still street drive it quite often. Maybe next time I need to replace the mounts, I'll be ready to make it more of a dedicated fun/track car.

That's probably $2450 out the door too since they're in Oregon.

Feels like it's worth the drive since the price difference is several tanks of gas.

worth the drive? isn't your time worth something? I'd rather pay more and go to G2.

It's your time and $, but I'd get a written estimates from any potential shops and make an apples to apples comparison (what bearing are included in AR's estimate?). I'd make sure the estimates include cost for the specific bearing you want as they're priced differently. And make sure it has all the stuff on the attached G2 estimate - oil, filter, hardware, etc. And don't forget a hotel room in Portland as the shop will need the car for 2 days

Ok I got the formal quote from AR Auto Service. It actually came out to around 2600. He forgot to add the Oil Pan Bolts to the estimate. Here's the formal quote.

^ good price.

I see the motor mounts mentioned under labor, but not the cost of the parts? And why is 5w30 engine oil listed?

Are new oil pan bolts required? Those add up to almost an extra $100. I was under the impression from other threads that there was no issue with reusing the bolts.

Oil pan gasket definitely needs to be new though.

Got my car back today. Good turnaround time, dropped off at 8am yesterday and received the call that it was ready for pickup around 1045am today. Also kind enough to give me a ride when I dropped off and picked up the car.

My total cost out the door was $3617.47. This was BE Bearings rod bearings with their recommended ARP bolts and OEM motor mounts.
Definitely pleased with the service, they knew what they were doing and got it done quickly.

My bearings were in bad condition, especially one had chunks missing out of it. Fortunately no damage from that. I'll start a thread over in the engine subforum with details later today.

Great news! My car is there now for the same work.

I saw your bearings when I dropped my car off, they were toast. Especially the one with flakes/chunks missing, you dodged a bullet there.
