Top two causes for an externally audible ticking that I have seen discussed are a stone caught between the caliper and the backing plate (trivial) or main bearing failure (catastrophic).
That car could be modded and be making a noise for a completely different reason.

At about 1:21 there is a Silverstone E92 M3, and as it rolls by you hear this clinking noise!

This has happened to me about 3-4 times and I can't go to the dealer because it goes away by then!

Anyone had this sound occur?
Best way to describe it is the "cow bell" sound. Had it yesterday and it's gone today but I was shittin bricks when I heard it lol. Do a search for cow bell sound and there are a few threads on it.

100% small rock stuck between brake caliper and aluminum sheild..many have had it. It goes away by itself. No worries.
