I prefer my E90 to my older E92... But this one actually works so I'm a little swayed. I like the room and styling a bit more, maybe its that more compacted look? Gives it a bulldog stance

Once you have one it's not even really that big a deal. When I traded my E90 M3 for the M6 I was like "woo CF roof". But I think I've bothered to look at it maybe 5 times, ever? I hardly ever think about it.

Main considerations
1. Practicality (Sedan is a bit more but you could in theory live with the coupe just as easily) 2. Styling/looks (subjective) At the end of the day its a personal decision, dont think you can weigh up the pros and cons of both and then say what is the right decision...

It is completely subjective. I have a coupe and two kids aged 10 and 2 and use it all of the time without issue. Would a sedan be better in this regard, yes. However, for me, I think the coupe is far nicer looking car but that is just me. Lots here think otherwise and that's the right answer for them. IMO, the rear end of the sedan looks really odd and I don't like the taillights. I had a 328 sedan a few years back and thought the exact same thing of that and drooled every time I saw a 328/335 coupe. There is a reason the E92 M3 outsells the E90 by a very big margin . But, thats just me and there are lots of people who have the opposite opinion!
If you prefer the looks of one to the other, get it. The practicality difference should not hold you back in my view. Two kids, golf clubs, no issue in the coupe. If you like the looks of the sedan, get it... if you like the looks of the coupe, get it. You win either way.

^ I couldn't agree more, and I myself prefer the look of the sedan. What bothers me are the ones who state that it should only come one way and not in any other. I love the fact that you can get the same powertrain and pretty much all of the features in sedan, coupe, or convertible versions (and I understand that the vert with the extra weight is a bit different dynamically, but nothing short of fantastic in its segment). Not many cars with this type of powertrain offer that combination, and when they do, you end up sacrificing a lot. I hope BMW maintains this tradition with the M3 for years to come, despite rumours of the next gen ditching the sedan.

I bought an E90 M3 because it looks good, goes fast, handles well, and has the practicality of four doors.
The E92 M3 looks stunning. If you don't need or want four doors and are into appearances, it is the one to get. As others have pointed out, you can still stuff a lot into a two door. I have used my E36 M3 two door as a construction vehicle at times -- it has the fold down seats and I have carries 10 foot pieces of wood, lawnmowers, bags of water softener and mulch, boxes of tools, etc. It is a little easier packing a sedan, but if you don't do this often, it should not be an obstacle. |
