Tip for Discount Tire TPMS
I should have posted this after I dealt with it all, but forgot until scrolling this section.
Basically, went to Discount for some "winter" tires (just mounted dws06 on my stock winter wheels to be able to drive on cold days). Needed tpms too and discount got me all in at a great price. WELL, their computers for programmable tpms only showed m3's for 08, or 08-10. So they put the wrong programmable ones in first, since mine is '11 LCI. They originally put in the HUF UVS2000, when LCI models need UVS4030. I let them know and they happily switched it out. THEN, they state they couldn't get it to program. After a couple trips between a couple techs I finally convince them to let me see their TPMS programmer. It lets you search by make, model, then year. And for the m3 it was only showing 08 and they said there was nothing else they could do. I finally convinced them to program them another model, but 2011. I think I had them do BMW 328i 2011 or 2012, doesn't really matter. AND VOILA, the TPMS finally worked! I also got a partial refund due to the amount of trips it took so I wasn't too frustrated.

Honestly, it often comes down to who is working that day. Newer guys who haven't worked on a lot of cars won't know some of these tricks. Glad you got it worked out!

Probably due to aftermarket sensors, I never had to program oem sensors. I have since switched to FTM since I didn't want to drill out my new wheels to fit tpms sensors.

I have never needed to program any TPMS with an external device. OE or aftermarket monitors. The only 'programming' required is to reset the car's TPMS receiver via iDrive or the button on dash.
