Just submitted my car to BAT

So I just submitted my vehicle for BAT auction. It will be reviewed by them first I guess. I just hate the fact I just had unknown damage to rear bumper and it cracked the paint. Body shop told me that the damage is not structural or requires me to get new bumper, so I went ahead and had them repaint it for $500. I disclosed that information to BAT since I do not want to lie about the car's condition. So guys wait until my car is ready for sale and makes some good comments for me haha. Btw, will the damage and repair devalue the car a lot? I hope not....

Cracked paint isn't structural. I can't imagine it would be a big deal. Think of all the cars that get keyed. Repaint is even less Than that, right? No BAT experience here though good luck!

OP, it's a 2013, why are you auctioning it off?

I should not auction off my car being 2013? Is there reason for it?

I guess the question I should have asked is this "Do you feel you will get a better price for it through an auction vs. private party sale?", or perhaps "What is your reason for deciding to auction vs. private party sale or trade in?"

I was just curious why you chose to auction it. Faster sale maybe?

It's a beautiful car, love those rims on it.

Thanks for the compliment. I initially thought about selling it privately, but I thought it would be too much hassle dealing with possible joy riders and lots and lots of test drivers before I find the serious buyer with serious money. People here are saying BAT might create bidding war between buyers which might give me good value on the car, so I'm kinda hoping that happens. It's kinda toss-up atm whether auctioning it off will give me better value than private sale due to downsized market demand from corona virus, but I still think benefit of BAT outweighs Private sale in terms of my time and money I can get from it.

I can see your reasoning now, thank you for clarifying. I would hope that the e9x m3 are sought after by a very small group of people, the likes of which would not be out randomly joy riding just for the heck of it. Best of luck with your auction.

Bringatrailer is a double edged sword when it comes to selling specialty cars. Yes, the average buyer there is more well informed when it comes to the quirks and is generally more serious than the average Joe off the street. However, be prepared for the circus in the comments section from folks that have no intention of bidding, but are ready to point out every issue.

"Were rod bearings done? Were throttle actuators done?"

It's common across multiple platforms, such as the IMS issue on the 996 and subframe/floor problems on the E46M/Z3M.

I wish you the best of luck in your sale, a 2013 with the Carbon roof should bring a premium regardless.

Absolutely. You typically get the best price on BAT vs private party. And you don't have to deal with tire kickers, flakes, and test drivers.

When I hear private sale I want to throw up. People are crazy out here. No one has any money or they try to trade you with a lesser value of the same thing your selling. I've got a supermoto up for sale threw the online garbage and the first sentence says "no trades please". I get at least 1 trade offer per day. Today was some kid who had a rusty gun and 1000 rounds. We traded in my wife's car this weekend for a new Jeep and lost thousands based on private party value. I was perfectly fine with it and to not have to deal with broke tire kickers with an 87 for a trade. That was from a few days ago and he was pissed that I said no. Lol

Good luck keep us posted on your experience.

Are 2013s with Carbon Roofs more rare? How about 2012 ZCP with a carbon roof?

A long time ago someone had a sweet rant about selling cars to private party.
First, you get lowballed to half of whatever your asking price is regardless of sentences like 'firm on price'. Then, the person will try to sell their family into slavery to come up with whatever price you agree on.

I sold my 175k mile 330Ci 5MT on Craiglist. Listed it for 5k and every few days some moron would write with 'got 2k cash'. Well guess what, I've got a lot more than 2k.
Held firm and eventually sold it for 4.9k

Thank you. I might do some write-up after going through the BAT process from posting my car for an auction to getting paid because I really appreciate you guys' support here even though I am leaving this forum

Would've done private sale if mine hit like 120,000 miles and was worth way less than mine now since car is more financially accessible to potential buyers.

That's the worst when they just email or text a number and nothing else.

All E92s have a carbon fiber roof unless optioned with a sunroof. It's one of the main reasons not to put glass up there. Mmm... carbon weave

I've sold cars on BaT and as mentioned you'll need to be prompt and precise with your answers to comments. While the non-bidding commenters are frustrating, the bidding folks are on there reading your responses. The staff at BaT told me they're only accepting about 50% of the listings submissions right now. Everyone assumes they can sell on BaT but that's not necessarily the case. I've had a few listings rejected. Good luck, if your E92 is accepted it will sell for fair value.
