Piping is the same at 2.5".

Got it, thanks!
Wondering how different the tone will be between the two (MS and Challenge) catless with 2 resonators.

It will be a little quieter, especially in the lower rpms. Also, less raspy compared to the MS pipe.

Any news on these? I am leaning towards Evolve x-pipe or test pipes with BPMS Stage 2 tune. I have been holding off. I need more go ASAP. I have became to used to my current setup and need more power.

Welder is on Spring Break now and will be back next week... I wish we had spring break.

The work in that video looks very precise and well thought out. I'm interested in the Sport, but I have to ask - why does every HFC pipe solution (not just Challenge) put the cats in the secondary position? I would think it'd be better having the cats up front in the primary position, where they can get up to op temp quickly, and they'd do their job "better".

My guess is space constraints, if you look at the stock cats it's flattened and oval shaped. When putting a round cat in the same space becomes a bit difficult and since a lot of the X-Pipe manufacturers use "off the shelf" cats, it's pretty hard if not impossible to find an HFC that is flattened and oval like the stock ones are.

The cats on mine are in the primary position and you are correct they stick out too much and when I'm careless they catch speed bumps. Now they're become less round shaped

Damn you. You had to bring this back. I'm going to have to get the sport x-pipe.

I can't comment on other brands but the reason Challenge added a cat option was purely to reduce the smell. Since they didn't want to reduce any performance they placed the cats further down stream so they did reduce any flow coming directly out of the headers. They also didn't want to use a flat cat section and needed as much space as possible.

Thats kind of odd to move the cats farther downstream to avoid reducing performance. Downstream is where the temp and the velocity falls off as the space for the "airspring" increases. The farther upstream the better. The cats get hotter and work more efficiently there. Thats why BMW put the higher cpi cats in the primary position, so they'd get higher heat and the highest velocity. You also get lower cold-start emissions.

As far as the smell, a dyno tune should eliminate that. The fuel smell comes from extra fuel added to the mix to cool the cats and prevent overtemp.

Even with a dyno tune running catless you will get an odor when running catless. As you already know BMW placed the primary cats after the headers they had no room to work with and went with a flat cat. The location for the Challenge cat does not cause any space issues and can run a true round 2.5" cat.

Quite a few x-pipe manufacturers (Challenge, Akra, MRF, BW, etc.) found placing the HFCs in the secondary location increased HP and torque. It may not be the ideal location for the CATs to heat up quickly and for CAT efficiency.
