On OEM 18's, are there any adverse effects of running 265/35/18 rears with 245/40/18 fronts?

I noticed alot of other cars run a slightly shorter sidewall in the rear. Also this combo expands a few more tire options to buy.

I have 265/35 R18 rears.. Not by choice. The dealer put these on the car when it was sold to me. I didn't notice that it was the wrong size until later.

As for adverse effects..

The RPM is higher when cruising on the highway which makes for worse gas mileage.

The traction control system freaks out when you stomp on the gas as the wheel spins faster than it expects at any gear/speed. I get the traction control light blinking a lot more than it should even when I have total traction.

This is both a positive and negative but with the DSC off, it is much easier to spin the wheels. You lose traction easier as the smaller diameter makes it easier for the car to spin.

And a definite negative in appearance, you have a larger wheel gap in back and the overall wheel diameter looks noticeably smaller than the front. So it looks like the rear wheel is smaller than the front.

I'd probably do a 275/35 rear if you are looking for more rear options. The diameter difference is not as big.

It might but the diameter is more similar to 265/40 than 265/35. With 265/35 you are talking about the sidewall of the tire being over 1/2 an inch shorter and 4% variation in size.

275/35 also equals the front 245/40 in diameter size so at least your rear tires look the same size as the fronts rather than being smaller. 285/35 or 295/35 would be ideal in terms of maintaining diameter but that comes in limited sizes and pushing the size limit for stock wheels. 275/35 is a good compromise in terms of price/selection alternative for 265/40

i have 275/35/18 on my rear dropped on eibach and it rub when making a right turn a low speed....is it just me or am i not even supposed to put 275/35 on

Do you have stock size in front? I don't think it should rub in back.. are you sure you aren't rubbing in front?

i have 255/35/18 up front, yes on stock rims

Going from 245/40R18 to 255/35R18 means your front tires are a lot smaller than stock. You reduce the front wheel diameter by nearly an inch over stock. Overall, your front and rear tires are smaller than stock...

You should find out for sure if it is rubbing in front or back. Also spacers or other things can make it worse.

i can hear the back rubbing when turning at low speed, so i know it's the rear....no spacer, just dropped on eibach.

so i am just curious why OP would go 35 vs sticking with 40
