Yes, therein lies the most critical distinction; a Camry has an LSD--Porsche product planners are ON LSD when they decide options and pricing.

It's ok. It's how the cycle goes. I was a die hard e92 guy screaming g that the f80 wasn't special. Until I actually bought one and it looks special, feels special and when I got back into an e92 I was bored and it felt very not special. So people will come around but everyone needs their own realization and it won't come from anyone telling them or vice versa.

No, I'm certain the Camry does NOT, but I ran with it anyway.

True. Shouldn't you change your callsign to 7,600RPM now that you have an F8X?

There are always going to be people who are not going to like the F80. When it comes down to it. For someone who has been driving V8 engines for years now. I find it hard to like small trubo engines. No matter how fast, or special the car is. For me its simply comes down to the fact i do not want to drive this style of engine. a lot of guys here are real M3 guys who have been driving BMW and M cars for years. well i haven't, i leased a e90 328i years ago for a winter car. I was driving a camaro SS with a built engine, cam, heads, full exhaust etc. thought it was cool how i could grab a neat little 4.0L V8 engine in a BMW. I would have never bought one if it came with a trubo 6 back then either.

the E92 is going to feel boring to a brand new F80. If i were to keep my E92 longer, i would mod it.

Or 5600RPM if he decides to run a JB4!

Just joking!

I get it. But---the current throttle by wire system is actually better than cable. The current EPS is worse than HPS. So when EPS is as good as HPS, well that's fine. We are just not there yet.

I dont know how long you've owned your M3 but the car can be jerky, with the slightest input making the car act like a bucking bronco.
It doesnt happen all the times but it does happen under certain conditions where maybe the ECU is confused.
it's something you dont get with a throttle by cable, my friend.

Steering feedback is subjective, some folks like a heavy steering wheel, withva bigger cut with slightest input etc. My first E92 M3 was the first year model When it came out, a lot of the car journos hated its steering wheel feedback.

That's why i go test drive a car myself instead of going by what Top Gear or Evo said about a car.

My E90 6MT is an 09. I drive 500 miles per week on twisty parkways as well as the interstate. The jerkiness that you refer to is more of a clutch issue, not throttle modulation.

As far as the F80, I did three separate test drives. The EPS is crap. There are multiple posts on the C&D thread that feel the same way.

I think the last two categories (Chassis & Experience "Fun to Drive") say it all.

And, from the article itself, "The 911’s shortcomings have nothing to do with driving"
In the areas that count. Handling, performance, quality fit/finish, feel/precision, fun to drive the 991 KILLED the m4.

Funny how with the 997 Generation they never compared the m3 to the 997/997.2S because the results wouldnt have fared well for the m3.

The 991 generation, though, has taken the game to a level that everyone is still scratching their head trying to figure out how to get anywhere close.

This is also the first time, even for me who is a diehard Porsche guy, would ever consider the base 991 because its that good. Previous base 997 911 wasnt worth buying, only the S and up. The 991 base is just phenomenal.

It affects DCT cars as well with the tranny in gear.

Well, I can tell you that the DCT on the F80 is fantastic. In fact, it's too good. As far as throttle modulation of E90 vs F80, the F80 felt better, but the steering was one of many dealbreakers for me.

Mmmmmmh, that didnt stop you from getting an E90 M3. Sports cars manufacturers can't tune the steering to everyone's specific wacko liking.

I like the E9X M3 steering wheel feedback but when the car came out a lot of car journos and you included, didnt. Is the E9X M3 a disappointment then?

It has improved brake dive, turn-in and flattened out the cornering, but of course the steering is still too numb.

Any ideas about how to reduce the overboosted steering assist, or how to totally replace the rack and entire steering system with one that is more in keeping with this car's chassis and power?

It is throttle modulation, happened to me the first week I owned the car and then I got used to it. Turn off the 'power'

The E9X steering was not to my liking until I did Benvo's sevotronic mod. Regardless, the unmodified E9x steering is better than the EPS in the F80.

Either way, you don't buy the car before you drive it. You should know what you are getting into prior to purchasing any vehicle. Knowledge is power and ignorance is bliss

They did do a comparison with the M3 and 997. It was the M3 GTS vs 997 GT3! And of course the 997 came out on top.

I swear one of these days I will own a 997 model. Even though the new ones are better but to me a 911 should have 3 pedals lol
