Good mileage for used M3?

Hey there,

I currently own a 2013 335i and have been thinking about trading in for a 2011-13 M3. What is a good maximum mileage you all would recommend for a used M3?

I test drove my first M3 today and it felt like a TOTALLY different car than what I currently have, and I've caught the M3 bug lol. Theres a few around town around 45-50k miles for 40-45k. Less mileage the price goes up (obviously). Anyone thats bought used what should I shoot for?

Mine has some mileage on it - drives the same as the lower mileage cars I tested (for now at least). I assumed since it was a 2010 that the person must have driven a lot of highway miles to rack up an average of 18k+ miles a year. Who knows though... I also worried that a low mileage performance car signaled that the car was used as a toy and pushed harder than someone who drove the car for vanity reasons. It's all speculation on my part though, and allows me to sleep at night. Mine was CPO'd so I guess I didn't care either way.

Buy the car that you can afford, with the options and mileage you deem appropriate. Any used car should be weighed on several conditions and mileage is just one of many considerations.

Got my 2011 E93 M3 a little more than a month ago with 24k miles on it, CPO. It was a lease, so I would be on the lookout for cars coming off leases... normally have low miles and end up being CPO'ed. Price-wise they normally fall in the low to mid $50k range. But like some others have said, you should go for the lowest amount of miles you can afford.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Mine has 127000 km (whatever that is in miles) on it and I bet you it performs just as good as a 2013 model that would cost twice as much. The only thing to watch out for is the rod bearings problem, but that's just as likely a problem with lower mileage cars as it is with older cars.

IMHO try to find a 2011 or newer, they solved the rod bearing issue's and LCI update. CPO'ed bmw's have an extended warranty as well. I would think around 40k miles is a good balance. But yes, the lower the better. go to BMWusa.com and look in the used car finder and type in M3 with your requirements. ANY dealer can ship you a car. I've done it twice and perfect success.

It's more important how the car was treated. I would try and find one that hasn't been modded and returned to stock. Also try and find one that wasn't tracked. I found a private seller and asked a lot of questions.

Oh man lol. I bought one yesterday from BMW. 2011 Sedan fully loaded. It has 13.6k miles on it, but was a SC performance center car so it was pushed hard the time it was there. Everything right now is fine on the car and I'm looking at extended warranties. Mine expires in two months. I love the car though!
