Carrera T the perfect Porsche?

Is this the perfect Porsche? It doesn’t break the bank (as far as 911’s go) and gives you all the feels you want in a 911. Power you can actually tap into on canyon roads without immediately eclipsing 100mph. It’s almost the Miata of 911’s.

Needs more power. The fact that a 911 exists with 700 hp would steer me away from the Carrera T. Heck, the 997.2 Turbo has 500hp and only weighs 300 lbs more.

Do you really need 700HP, I know you want it but honestly where does it end. Isn't the driving experience what counts? Keeping the rev's in the zone for torque, rowing the gears?

I'm old I guess, but I still love driving something that has a soul. I think that's the idea behind the 911T.

If you’re not on a track, you quickly reach the point of diminishing returns by adding obscene amounts of power. This is why the Miata is one of the most fun cars to drive in the world. I want to be able to wring out the engine in 3rd and 4th gear. With 500hp+, you can’t really do that too often.

first, it all depends on whether you consider the 991 the greatest iteration of the Porsche 911. because all the Carrera T is, is a base Carrera with only the options Porsche thinks appeal to the 'driving enthusiasts', with a package discount over speccing those options individually.

second, then you get to decide whether a stripped down, 'pure' base Carrera is better than the GT3, GT3RS, GT2RS and 911R (spoiler alert: it's not, but it gets some credit for being more attainable than those models)

I guess the main question every potential buyer of a weekend Porsche must ask themselves is if an extra $50k or more over the Carrera T will yield a significantly more fun driving experience. (If not planning on tracking the car)

After building a Carrera T with the configurator, I ran to the garage and hugged my lowly bargain-priced M240i.

I think I’d still save a few bucks and get the base Carrera. If it were a Carrera S T then maybe I’d feel more compelled. But I haven’t graduated to paying over $100k for a car yet so my opinion is not worth much.

It definitely gets expensive really fast.

But there aren't many legit competitors in this class besides the AMG GT. The Lexus LC is more of a grand tourer and the Maserati Gran Turismo is ancient (literally 5 yrs overdue for a redesign).

I guess there will be the M850, but it's just so....meh.

No. the 991 is too electronic to be the perfect Porsche.

Probably a base 997 or 993 or 964 is the perfect Porsche. The less power the better...

Plenty of amazing Porsche’s of old. My thinking was that this is the perfect -new- Porsche 911 to buy for a non-track car.

Not much out there that offers more excitement and refinement per dollar than a 240i!

My dad has a 2018 Carrera T with PDK, rear wheel steer and sport buckets with rear seat delete and it is as good as advertised. I've spent some with it and have driven may excellent cars, simply put it is an amazing machine. It is incredibly nimble with almost perfect steering and having such a large section with tire in the rear (305), it just grips at level that can't be matched other than by a super car. Depending how it is spec'd, I'd put it up against a 991.1 GT3.

Although it only has 370hp, it's quicker than a 991.1 GTS and Car and Driver managed a 11.9 1/4 mile at 118mph in the base 991.2 Carrera with PDK. That is no slouch.

This car will used at the track and around town, a poor man's GT3 if you will. However, at $120k for this particular build, one could have a 991.1 GT3 therefore there is a compelling argument against the T. However, it's much more understated which is compelling to many. If anyone gets the opportunity I encourage you drive one.

I wrote that in my original post. I was referring to apples and apples for new prices. Carrera T price and 991.2 GT3 hence the $50k gap at least.
