One man's fix it and drive it is another man's totaled...
I tend to be in the latter camp...not because things can't be fixed, but rarely are they brought back to "original" condition pre-accident...
Of greater concern is the "we're all OK" with just some minor issues...to have that much damage to the car, 360, both air bags deployed, other driver under the influence and higher rate of speed, I would STRONGLY advise getting good medical care today and in the near future. Oftentimes back, neck, shoulder etc. issues can take awhile to surface and too many people shrug it off and then have issues later on in life.
Hope it all works out well...

That is an expensive area to get hit in, though it doesn't look like the suspension or drivetrain were bent as a result. Until they get it into a shop to take a closer look, it's hard to say. $15k in damage wouldn't surprise me.

Wow, really hard to tell. I hope your wife doesn't have any lingering effects from the accident, but if has any after effect, definitely get it looked at ASAP. As far as the car is concerned, I agree that it will be close. I'd like to see a better photo of the hood, roof, and trunk. If the seams are all out of alignment, I can see it being totaled. And there seem to be some urban myth that if the airbags go off, the car will be totaled. I mean, based on the pics it looks like the rear quarter panel and airbags need to be replaced--perhaps one or more suspension arms? But that focus looks to be pretty badly damaged, so it's easy to understand that the energy of the hit could be transferred to the suspension and chassis, causing a myriad of bends.

Good luck and I hope it all works out.

update:

wife is suffering from mild concussion after diagnose. Doctor said she should recover in a couple weeks. Thank the man/woman upstairs.

Adjuster has not contacted me, but I received a Power of attorney paperwork to be signed, from Geico salvage total loss department. So I?m 99% sure it?s totaled. From their I?m sure they will try to give me less than the car?s worth and it would be an uphill battle. The car was a 2013 with 40k miles loaded with every option and no headlight washer. Took me a while to find and lots of emotional attachment..

Also need to figure out how to take off the mods

How many people in this thread write insurance estimates for a living?

I do write estimates for a living, and this car is not a total based on these pictures. The estimate to repair would have to be up around $20k+ to total this car, and I doubt it will get there. Who is your insurance company?

EDIT: just saw that you are with Geico, now I am REALLY surprised its a total. Ask them to email you a copy of the estimate to repair. Also they may be not be valuating your vehicle correctly.

even with frame damage, our 328i was not totaled (though i kinda wish it was). and they had to completely remove the engine, drivetrain, exhaust, suspension to have it corrected and then put everything back.

The car can be replaced...your wife can't...good to hear that she is getting good care...you may want to speak to an atty who specializes in these cases to ensure she is compensated for any medical bills, loss of wages, pain and suffering etc. Do make sure that she is 100% "right" before agreeing to any settlement...
Good luck on the car too...

M3 (or any performance car for that matter) with this type of hit is a total. Car will never be or drive the same again.

Probably. Looks like there could be structural damage.

Where in Arlington did this happen?

Mighty nice of you to let your wife drive it.

You don't know what you are talking about.
I have as much info on this car as you do.

And fortunately for OP, your zero value opinion matters just as much as mine.

your comment is not dependent on the OP situation, you are making a broad statement that is not valid. That is what I was replying to.

Oh the internet...

Good luck OP! Sounds like your wife will be all right. In instances like this with cars that "matter" I tend to sway towards "please total it". I say this because hits, especially a good one like this, sure make it difficult to get it back to how it was. There's always something that tweaks the car and it never feels... right.

Agreed, plus that rear quarter panel is nearly impossible to get right without loads of bondo - and I'd never considered that "right".

Cut and weld likely above the value of this car...

What’s the lesson learned here? If your M is going to get crashed. Might as well be the owner who’s driving it.

Painful.

Again, please stop spreading false information. The quarter panel section on the m3 is attached to the car via adhesive and SPR (self piercing rivets) per BMW specification. Very little filler is used in this replacement, or any replacement for that matter when performed by a qualified technician.

If this was a newer car, this wouldn't even be a conversation, the car would be almost done with repairs at this point.

Oh, interesting. I was not aware. The last 335 that came into the shop with this damage was totaled in a heartbeat.

335 has no value, its purely a numbers game with insurance, and totaling a car has nothing to do with the reparability of a vehicle...anything can be fixed.

I stand by what I said. I sure as hell wouldn't buy it, and most on this forum would avoid it like the plague.

Doesn't take much to put a nagging vibration (which is the least of worries which can ruin the drive) into a performance car even without an accident, let alone straight up getting t-boned.
