Just the fronts. I see no reason to roll down the rears.

If you are there through the weekend and come across an orange ZR1 that is likely my dad. If you happen to chat with him I'm sure he would love to hear any corvette wisdom you can pass on - will be his second event.

i don't have a four door, but i'd roll them all down. less projectile glass in the event of a crash and possibly better audible cues.

That track looks a little sketchy. There's not a lot of run-off in some very fast areas and that pit entry (yellow barrier) is right at corner exit. I can see that ending badly for someone.

If you think the ridge is sketchy you should see our other local track, Pacific Raceway. You can get a nice launch up a hill-side if you off, or bounce off a couple walls.

I have a little tid-bit to add to this TNiA conversation. At MSR Cresson at the last TNiA the local Hagerty Representative went and did a classroom presentation for all of the novice drivers prior to their first session and between sessions they had a lead driver giving session de-briefings to everyone in Novice. It was very well run and the trial was such a success I have heard they are taking it to upper level SCCA management and hoping to implement it at other TNiA events around the country.
So have some patience, it could be getting better I think. At least they are putting the effort in.

The quality of TNIA will vary and depend on the competence of the SCCA group running the event.

For example, Milwaukee SCCA runs a very organized TNIA.

As I've said, careful who you HPDE with. A high quality organization (meaning...they enforce some level of standards) is not a given for all DE events.

I run with Driver's Edge in TX. The DE organizer requires all outside instructors to be vetted and looked at. He never lets someone just show up and start instructing. Some have to go through the instructor clinic. Instructors from other TX DE orgs b!tch about it but the result is a group of well qualified instructors and safely run events.

There are other DE orgs in TX that have novice students in other DE orgs instructing. I've seen it. Just a warning...

TNIA in Dallas, TX was fine when I did it earlier this year. They could've done a better job making it clear where to go at MSR Cresson but otherwise the event was without incident.

When I had glass, I only rolled down the fronts. When the car was gutted and caged, there was no glass front or rear for awhile. Ultimately I decided to have plexiglass windows made for the rear-door windows. The theory was that the car was more aerodynamic with rear windows in place. Who knows. I couldn’t tell any difference one way or the other.

Regarding the most important factor——In my opinion, the car looks better in pictures on the track with the rear glass up.

Yep times do not matter in the beginning. I would say even for a year. Just focus on technique.

Got my car back with new clutch (since I was in there) and transmission replacement.

It's so quiet and engages so much better!

Now I need an exhaust again since it's too quiet. Maybe an akra later on. Right now it's test pipes plus stock exhaust.

Putting in Bmw Motorsport golf ball knob to stock shifter and putting in my subs and carpet back in in the next couple of weeks.

So much more of a pleasure to drive than a more track focused car.

Won't be among the fastest but it'll still do occasional track days and be comfy on the street.

I've joined a 12 step track sinkhole anonymous group. It's working.

I'll still be faster than @stripclubdj though

Chiming in late on the euro mdm discussion (boss got promoted, doing both jobs is a time suck).

Surprisingly, I only saw limited to no additional brake wear due to mdm after 3-days at COTA and 3-days at Labuan in 2016. I only ran it as an extra layer of safety as my skills had atrophied due to a lack of track time. I focused on being smooth and precise vs driving flat out like normal. At my one, yes one, track weekend since then, I was at a new track (summit point) and we had weather. Not a fair pad wear comparison.

When I was thrashing the car with mdm at Spring Mountain, a track I’m intimately familiar with, I’d notice the lights coming on at a corner where I was having difficulty setting up properly. I’d get behind in the previous couple of corners and always end up chasing this one. Plus it is a rough transition from a new section of track to the original track mid-corner (brilliant!).

Having started in autocross, then after one track weekend in 1995 with a new M3 dropping down to an E30325iS, I had no choice but to learn good habits. Ruthless Pacific region bmwcca instructors ensured success. Perhaps that helped me use mdm without much intervention while still being near the front of the hpde leaderboard. Alas, I had to sell all the trophies when I moved.

And as far as broken car getting home stories, I had said 325iS toss a rocker arm at Laguna (wife driving, decided bouncing off the Conforti rev limiter between 4 and 5 was faster than a quick shift and then downshift)... unplugged the injector and drove it home on 5 cylinders. Car was a beast.

I ran an event with BMWCCA a few weeks ago and they made sedans roll down front and rear all the way. FWIW

Does anyone have any opinions on DBA versus GiroDisc rotor rings? Both are high-carbon with tons of the air-pump vanes. The slotting design is different. Price is very similar (about $350 per rotor) and actually a hair cheaper than OEM Brembo ($400).

I've got the DBAs on right now and they seem to be fine. Didn't notice any difference over stock so it's mostly a cost thing, I suppose.

Comparison between OEM Brembo rotors and GiroDisc, including weight:

Here are photos of the specific rotors.

Does Essex have some for you? I'd go with the AP racing if they have them.

Sadly, the larger OEM brakes on the GS, Z06, and ZR1 do not have an AP replacement rotor ring. The Stingray with Z51 does, however.

I would assume either the demand is too low versus the more common Stingray, or they feel the bigger rotor is already sufficient. Honestly, if the OEM rotors were cheaper, I'd just keep running those. My first set of fronts and rears showed no issues with cracking or overheating. Even the guys at Fall-Line said the Brembo components are pretty solid for an OEM setup.

I have no bias here, but all of my C7 Vette friends who do a lot of DE's prefer the GiroDisc for cost and quality.
