Strange clanking from passenger rear - "it sounds like my car is falling apart"
Hey all,
Posting here hoping someone can help me identify this sound. I've been hearing it intermittently and I hesitate to take it to the dealer out of warranty because I know they're just going to say, "Sorry, we couldn't hear it, you're an idiot" I'd love to have some more information before I take it in! It's a 2008 E93 6MT. No mods. https://goo.gl/photos/qkfyLSQeagKwfuAy5 1) The sound in my video --- When it happens, it's very brief. E.g. After this video, the sound stopped and I couldn't reproduce it again. Three days later I heard it again but only one brief clank as I was slowing down and making a left turn. 2) Possibly unrelated, there's some creaking that appears to come from the front suspension when I slow down and make a sharp turn, usually going downhill. I tried searching on here for a while but not really sure what I'm looking for, so I apologize if this is a repost. Thanks everyone! ~Lincoln

I had a similar noise that sounded like something dragging under the car in an underground parking lot. Turned out to be just stones caught between brake rotor and shield..., a common occurrence
Do some searches on that and see if it compares to your issue. |

Actually, now that you mention it, this reminds me of a similar sound I heard a LONG time ago, that turned out to be exactly that. Stones (or something) caught in the rotors. The neighbor adjacent to my driveway has gravel that always gets up on "my side of the fence" so I'm guessing you nailed it.
Sounds about right: Thank you!

Check for stones first. Check for any visible scratch or dent that would be causes by two loose pieces. If you can't find any, it's a bearing that needs to be changed. Had that on my '09, made similar random noise. Was very hard to find until I bumped into a friend with a Ferrari who ran into this before. It's a tricky one.

Sounds like the classic cow bell noise. Most commonly pebble in the brake shield. Others if I recalled had issues with the parking brake. Search "cow bell"
