Too much spacers?

Picked up a set of Breyton Race GT from a fellow BMW owner, for winter use. He had them on his 08 M5 as a square set up with Blizzaks(255/40/19). He mentioned that he needed to use 20mm spacers to make it fit the M5(he included them in the sale). Last night I tossed the wheels on, including the spacers. Got a chance to drive the M3 today and noticed rubbing during turns and something going on in the rears. Quickly parked and took the SUV instead(I was rushing back to work). So are the 20mm too much spacers for the M3? I have a stock 2011 e92 M3 with ZCP.

Wheel specs:

Offset: 35mm
Backspacing: 6.10"
Bolt Pattern: 5-120
Rec. Tire Size: 235/35-19
Weight: 31.0lbs.

Your tire size is too tall by about an inch and is not meant for the M3. You need 255/35/19 and even that can potentially rub in the front with some cars. Sorry but you need new tires to fix your issue. What is the width of the wheel?

That seems to be the consensus after calling around. They're 8.5" in width. Is it too tall for both front and back? Or just the fronts.

They're too tall for both really. Although you *might* be able to get away with 255/40 in the rear. I would just craigslist those tires and start new. For 19x8.5" 245/35 or 255/35 work. 245/35 on 19x8.5 is stock front size.

You are missing one key piece of information here....how wide is the wheel? A 20 mm spacer essentially gives you an offset of 15mm on a wheel that has a baseline offset of 35mm. That will work with an 8.5" wide wheel, nothing wider in the front. The rear will accomodate a wider wheel , but again, without the specific width, I can't advise you.

Also, however, your wheel/tire diameter is simply too large for the M3, by quite a significant amount.

Thanks for the advice guys. It's 8.5" wide all around. I went ahead and just got some 255/35/19 lm60 blizzak yesterday. It definitely did not fit with the 255/40/19. I did install the spacers with the new tires and like you mentioned, it clears. Ended up spending more but if I can sell off the 255/40/19, I'll be able to recoup some. Bad news however is one of the 255/40/19 had a large slit on the sidewall. Didn't notice it until the tire lost pressure. Bah, lesson learnt.
