I owned a white CLK550 2008.. It's fast, I raced the Mustang GT500 and didn't lost by 2 car lengths.. It's fast, is it M3 fast? idk i've been thinking about it for a while now..
My bro had a CLK500 and I would kill him all the time, it's a huge different ^ .. CLK550 = 382HP (smashes E46zz) CLK500 = 300HP (E46 level)

fwiw, I've had a few good runs with some E9x M3s in my E63 until we get to higher speeds, then I pull away easy. But I can pull right away from CLK550s, there's no contest there. E9x M3>CLK550.

CLK550 has a slightly better hp to weight ratio than the C55, and it also has the newer 7G-tronic transmission that the C55 never got.

SO I bumped into a CLK550 convertible yesterday on the highway. This douchebag was tailgating me. I still have 400 miles on the car and don't plan to really open up the throttle until its 1200+miles! I can't wait to spank one. AND i'll video tape it. so I can shut my friend up!

Many months later this thread shows up on the list again;
Here are my current thoughts. On the track there's a straight away that I always go full throttle on. It's up hill and about half a mile. With the CLK550 that I had I could easily hit 130, but with the M3 6MT that I had now, It's a challenge to get past 124 before having to brake. See Mercedes Is designed for the autoban so it's super fast in a straight line. As you know there normal non-AMG cars suck in turns and handling.. (an AMG still doesn't have the handling that a normal BMW [non-M] has.) & the BMW as you know will kill the Benz around a track. With that said up a hill a car with more torque will always win, I proved it going up that hill with both cars. The CLK550 has almost 100 more torques than an M3.. So if you want to crush the benz make sure your driving downhill or on a flat incline.. For example the drag strip that you mentioned. I hope you're racing a coupe and not a convertible.

I wish I could say that I would smash a CLK550 coupe, but I'm not sure smash is the right word. "Beat, or pull on" would be the proper terminology.

I turned in my 2008 CLK 550 coupe for a 2011 M3 coupe. The cars are totally different. I even had a 2010 E550 coupe special ordered and turned it away on day of delivery because the dealer started playing games with incentives that MBUSA offered me. Anyway thats a different story.
The CLK 550 had a great initial launch and pulled pretty hard up until 100 then the car started to slow up until you really had to drive it to the edge at 125. The CLK 550 had very poor high speed handling, you can not take exit ramps and curves like in an M3. The brakes were decent though. The car also wore rear tires quickly because they always spun and the car has a non-posi rear-end. The M3, that some of guys say lacks low end torque, would pull back the CLK by second gear, then pull away by forth when driven properly. DCG in 4 or 5 or full 6 manual mode. If you want another camparision, I also drove an automatic Audi S5 with there adjustable driver bullshit. The car has to always be in dynamic mode or its a total dog. It goes no where, it feels like nothing, you feel the AWD and the only i liked was the steering feel. Even there stereo i didnt care for that everybody raves about. The E 550 coupe drives much better than the Audi S5 and far better than the CLK 550.I atribute this to the newer chassis. It even felt faster than my Clk and was a much better ride. Unfurtunitly for MB, it just still felt like a CLK. It really had no steering feel and even with the adjustable suspension it wasnt connected to the road. It also really needed 19" wheels and wider tires. The M3 is a sports car. You can say it has luxury, but to be you dont by it for that, its pretending. My car is a 2011 ZCP carbon-roof, NO I-drive, No Bullshit. I leased it. After 3 years most people will be tired of this car I think. When Mercedes make an E coupe AMG and/or when they put the new 4.6 TT motor in the car next year, watchout. A little suspension work and wheels, and this car will probably be the perfect mix of luxury and performance. Thats my next ride. Dont get me wrong...I love my M3. |

NO. I drove it in S mode. I know how to drive. I also had KN Filters and Kleemann Exhaust. The M3 is a totally different car. Great instant tourque in CLK ,but then, thats it. My M3 would destroy it.
