Yes, it's not easy keeping it under 5500. I have about 500 more miles to go until break in. It's killing me!
By the way, the 1200 mile service is free (in the U.S.).

1000 miles in 4 days? 250 miles per day. You really drive a lot. I drive 100+ miles/day going to and from work and then chaperoning the kids. But, 250 man, that's got to be a record. Is this your normal commute? Or do you just want to get past break-in?

I'm surprised people don't know this before getting into a BMW nowadays. Certainly an enthusiast who's geek enough to get on a forum such as this should know about BMW Ultimate service and warranty. There should be quiz for potential M car buyers before they're allowed to get one.

I had to drive my new M3 from Wisconsin to Nevada- 2000 miles. Tried to have 1200 mile service done in Salt Lake City; they didn't have the parts! Got to Reno and tried to get service; they didn't have the parts either! Had to order from Germany. After two weeks, parts are now in.
Also, note in the small car guide summary that there is a second recommended break-in period from 1200 to 3500 miles.

Yeah, sorry to hear man. That almost happened to me, they told me they needed to order some parts but turned out they had them in the end. It was the micro-filters that they were unsure about having.
