Dealer quoted $460 for a new battery???

Hi guys so I've been having a few issues with my car lately, all that point to a failing battery. My dealer told me a replacement battery would be over $460 installed!! Is this true??

I remember my last e92 (non ///M) was $220 for a replacement battery, why is my m3 twice as much? Should I tell him to go f*ck himself with that price??

Way too high, I got an AGM battery from autozone for I believe $140 but they gave me money for my core, I think the original price was around $180-200. Even the oem battery is low 200's from the dealer so the fact that they're charging you a couple hundred dollars to program the battery is absurd. Find a local coder to register the battery for you

I got a $220 Bosch AGM battery from my local pep boys and put it in myself. No particular skill is required to do that, but it is true that getting the old battery out and the new battery in is a complete pig of a task. Swearing will take place. The quoted price probably also includes registering the new battery with the car's computer, to allow for efficient charging. It's still overpriced, of course, but hey, it's only Canadian Dollars, right?

That priced including installation via the dealer probably is inline.

If you are able to DIY the job, you can pick up an equivalent aftermarket sized battery for far less and save on the install fee.

I don't find it that atrocious

If you want an autozone battery you can get one for around $200. Then register it or pay someone to do it for you

If you need to pay someone and want to pay high dealer rates for labor and parts, then $460 is probably in the ballpark. If you know how to change a battery, it might take an hour and the battery might be $150-200 for a Bosch or other AGM Group 49. If using the same amp hours, and most AGM Group 49 will be close enough not to matter, no coding is required. However, it is recommended that you register the new battery and that does require an advanced scan tool. Carly, Foxwell and others do it. Here is a link.

https://www.youcanic.com/guide/bmw-battery-registration

Honestly, if you don’t register it, probably nothing will happen. Maybe battery life will be slightly shortened.

Dealer offers a two year warranty on battery, if that helps with your decision...

That's a little out of hand.. I hope you're not still friends with someone so foolish if they actually paid for it lol

BMW used to include Roadside service as well on batteries. It should clarify on the back of your receipt.

It's a pretty reasonable quote from a dealer to be honest..

There's absolutely no way that was just a battery replacement lol. Ask you buddy for the service record if it and post it up

M3/M4 F8x have Lithium Ion batteries that can cost over 1K for the battery alone.

Exactly. The BMWNA MSRP for the F8x M3/M4 Li battery is $1518.45. Kind of puts the 30lbs saved to make everyone's lower weight desires in context at battery replacement time.
