M3 GTS engine with DCT - should we learn from BMW ?
Hi,
BMW states, that the DCT components are unchanged in the M3 GTS. Nice. BUT: They also state, that they fill in 1 additional liter of DCT fluid to compensate the higher load and heat due to the increased power-output of the 4.4 ltr engine. To achieve the additional GTS displacement ( M3 GTS 4361 ccm engine displacement is still less than M62 / N62 engine displacement ) they mention to use different pistons and a different crankshaft. Cyliner bore ( 92mm ) is unchanged, stroke increased from 75.2mm to 82mm. They don't mention conrods. Now, should we learn from this ? I guess, yes. Eugen |

Thanks for the doc. Very interesting. Even more interesting is this:
"Spurverbreitung durch Distanzscheiben vorn (notwendig fur den Rad/Feder Freigang)" = "track widening using spacers at the front (necessary for free space of wheel/fender)" Lesson : If you order competition package and want to use GTS tire sizes you may need spacers. Why didn't they build the wheels appropriately? Also they don't mention spacer size. |
