A good friend of mine just recently had a similar experience as yours, but with his e39 540i. Last week a couple of us helped replace a bunch of bushings (including rear subframe bushings which were actually kind of a PITA). Just tonight we were driving downtown to go eat, it was the first time I had been for a ride since the work had been done, and the car literally drove like it was new. He specifically commented on how awesome it was that the steering wheel shake was completely gone. This is an older car, so I'm not 100% sure this is applicable to the original question. But, I thought it was worth sharing

I am having the same issue. Just when braking around 60-70MPH. I feel it is not consistently there all the time or may be sometimes it is just very pronounced and sometime more subtle. Car only has 34K miles on it. Does have wheel spacers.

I'm also experiencing a steering wheel shake that begins around 70mph and gets more pronounced as you go faster. It does not seem to be correlated to braking. I'm on ZCP wheels with 15mm (front) and 12mm (rear) spacers - unfortunately, I don't know which brand.

I recently bought the car and the PO had just put new tires on the rears. There's a slight clockwise rotation to the steering wheel (not straight at the 12oclock position) so I'm thinking/hoping it's an alignment issue.

I'll get that checked and report back.

Mine is about the same now. Mostly under braking, but I do get it around 60-80mph cruising not applying the brakes. I removed my spacers, had my car aligned, tires rebalanced. No luck.

tension arm bushings, lower control arms, and upper strut mounts could all be causing the vibrations at speed.

Bring up a old thread and have you found the solution for this?

Brake rotors can also cause an intermittent shake even when not braking.
