Ohlins Dedicated Track Coilover Kit
Check out the new Ohlins Dedicated Track coilover kit that is being released:
https://3dmmotorsport.com/ I love the characteristics of the Ohlins R&T coilovers and believe they excel as a true dual-purpose option– very compliant on the street and a noticeable increase in performance on the track. When I decided to transition my car to a more track focused setup, I spoke to 3DM Motorsport about the development of this new kit and offered my M3 for the prototype since I live close to Ohlins in NC. The Ohlins is a very capable track damper; they just need to be properly revalved to accept higher spring rates. The modified valving increases the damping to not only help control the spring, but also give a crisp turn in to the corners, and their unique Dual Flow Valve soaks up the curbs to keep the car very stable. You get the best of both worlds! Its more than just about "controlling the spring"; its about the dynamics of the suspension. I am blown away with the result. The car is firm but not harsh on the street and the track performance is amazing. The suspension feels poised and responsive and manages the higher spring rates (672 lbs front / 1008 lbs rear) with ease. Weight transfer on track felt very stable, and the suspension never gets unsettled over rough curbing. I was not able to change out my stock front sway bar before testing the new setup at VIR, but the cornering was balanced and rotation was easy to manage. Going to a slightly stiffer bar may be recommended, but is not necessary. You can purchase new "Dedicated Track" coilovers directly from 3DM Motorsport as they are responsible for helping Ohlins develop this kit. They are also set up for conversion of existing Road and Track coilovers quicker and cheaper than through Ohlins. If you purchase from 3DM, you also get one free revalve, so if you start with the R&T suspension, and later decide to switch to the Dedicated kit, you get a nice discount on the conversion. |

Any chance they come out with some for 400/750 springs for dual use?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I believe the standard valving on the Ohlins R&T could handle that modest increase in spring rates as stock is close to 350/700. Check with Ohlins to confirm.
Honestly, I was a little worried about how my car would feel on the street with the Dedicated kit's stiffer springs. It's mostly a HPDE car for me, but I like to drive it around town a bit and to/from events. I am totally shocked at how pleasant the new suspension feels on "normal" roads. It's sporty, but not jarring or bouncy at all. It behaves better on the street than my original R&T would when set to track mode at 5-clicks out. There's no soft setting with the Dedicated, it's always firm, but it does firm REALLY well. |

I assume this is the MU40 kit? Do they have built in adjustable camber plates?

Interesting. How many clicks do you run your new Dedicated kit for street use? And how does that compare to the original R/T valving in terms of clicks?

I guess this is a good in-between setup from ohlins raceline from PSI. I wonder if it upgrades to a 2-way setup. I have a Ohlins raceline kit and it's true Motorsport quality 2-way setup. and it can be upgraded to 3-way even 4-way. Too far for my skill level.

How this suspension compare with Kw clubsport ? one thing i would like on kw is the monotube inverted design for more durability. One thing i would like on Ohlins is compression adjustment or 2 way like the KW.
Any one have test both ? I currently have kw v3 but one is blown and is not rebuildable. Have also run Bilstein Pss10 but is not enought on track. Last edited by nickauger; 02-22-2021 at 07:46 AM.. |

These seem like a solid deal, if you're even looking at the R&T with GC camber plates. That setup will run you about $3100, so you can bump up to the MU40 for another $350.
Curious to see some reviews come out. |

Inverted monotube is a superior shock design. When they are all about the same money, its Ohlins all day. The decision between DT and RT comes down to your use case. If car sees mostly track time, its DT. If car seems mostly street time, its RT. The RT CAN be used on the track, it's still an upgrade over stock and a good platform to build off of (adding in camber plates, linear springs, send in for a revalve if car eventually moves closer to a FT track role)
If I were choosing for a car that was mostly street with a few track days a year I would probably go RT and add camber plates and adjustable sway bars. Softest setting on the street, and then dial up the bar for track days. |

There is no point in comparing Ohlins to KW. Not even in the same league. I run R&T and they are fantastic. I track 10 times a year. I don't see myself needing the DT ones as these are fantastic

About to order the dedicated track set up for my EDC car, do I need to order EDC delete kit of some sort? I assume EDC won’t work anymore.

Old post, but anyone go from R&T to Dedicated Track and can provide experience on how much harsher on the street?
I ordered R&T and was sent Dedicated Track and want to see if I should exchange them or if I should try out the Dedicated Track. My car is a weekend car, but not a track car, I generally use for road trips and spirited driving Saw Slicer's video on the differences and interesting that the rear is that much shorter. Having camber plates included is nice Thanks Diego |
