Just contacted them. The person who I was speaking to was very, very helpful, seems like they have a great staff there, unfortunately i forgot his name lol. From what i was told, what dogears has done is actually custom, being that changing the primary cats is not something they have in stock, the xpipe however is. Price for xpipe and tune installed is also very good compared to the competition. And best part of it all they r about 1.5 hours away from NYC. The gains from this setup look very good, looking forward to hearing from them.

One of my main concerns, so if something should happen at least I know I can drive a few hours away and have everything resolved. But the price is also a big part of this. Everyone seems to overcharge for something thats not really a big deal to make. |

The people over at fabspeed are awesome - good bunch of people to talk and deal with.
I was there a few weeks back contemplating on putting on x-pipes and doing a few dyno runs but a little worried about the noise because i currently have remus race. Nevertheless, they were still very helpful and responsive. |

Fabspeed and AWE use the same 200 cell HJS German cats on their systems. These are the only units that do not throw a CEL on the German cars. I had the AWE setup on my 997 C2S and it threw zero codes. BTW, The Encore Innovation pipe is not throwing codes either and they are also running 200 cell cats (I assume HJS).

I think this is pretty important for us that want to use this for street use and pass inspections. Yes, I know it's possible to swop out the bolt on exhausts but not something I want to do every year. Anyway, I'd like some hard data that the AA and Encore's Catted X-pipes don't throw ECU codes too. Catted X-pipes with a Race exhaust added is what I'm looking for. Can the retailers of these systems give some hard data or proof of it?

How can you prove a negative?
I don't speak for either company but case in point, look at AA's reputation. They've been around for a long time, they aren't exactly new at this stuff. They've been doing everything from off the shelf turbo kits to some pretty crazy custom builds since the E36 days. It looks to me like the cat pipes from Fabspeed, AA, and Encore are all winners in terms of working as advertised.

How about Omar telling me directly, on the phone, that their cats code. Can't be more proof than that. I appreciate his honesty as I was about to order the system. Stand up guy and great company. I use their pulley and air filter. Excellent service.
But, back to the point, AA catted X-pipes do code. If I was not informed straight from AA that this is the case, I would have bought it. As far as Encore not coding, we do not know if they eventually will. Same is true for Fabspeed. More time is needed. I can say that Fabspeed has many years of many HJS cats in service on German cars and none code. So I am told. Punjabi has first hand experience.

I'm still uncommitted at this point. X-pipe and HFC looks real nice. I'm a bit skeptical of messing with my ECU. I'd like to drive one of these cars first and see how it feels. If they're not dyno tuning this car correctly they are simply tuning the ECU to cover up mistakes on the dyno. Showing gains that aren't really there in real world driving. But that X-pipe and HFC at that price I really like.

Not to hijack but I have a small story about PES.
PES offered to do a custom tune on my car and eventually asked if I would like to guinea pig my car to do a supercharger prototype. Unfortunately, they left me with absolutely zero assurances about the s/c and simply recommended I go with a seperate warranty company (yeah right). I'm glad the tune worked out for you though. |

+1. I would like to know the quoted price as well and if they would do a discount if several of us order the cats and pipes...

Fabspeed is looking to get setup as a sponsor here so they can directly comment. In the meantime, the retail price for the full Xpipe setup with the high flow cats and choice of resonator or not, is $2295.
Also, I had a chance to nail it on dry ground today. The car was insane. It immediately went sideways and ran to the redline.... Much more responsive and very very noticeable. I only had a chance to hit it twice before getting to work. I'll report more later. Maybe at lunchtime. I was also told by Fabspeed that they data logged the ECU in real world driving to confirm all operating parameters such as A/F ratio, timing, knock, temps, etc. They had it out for 25 miles with the data logger.

Hi Chris,
Although I got a tune, it is not required. Best to call or email Fabspeed and talk to them.

I contacted RENN Spec about fittment, emissions, ECU check engine light/codes in regards to the Encore Innovations Stainless Steel X-pipe with high flow CATs. these are the answers as I had asked about the o2 sensor cable lenths, engine check lights/codes, emission tests & fitment. Sounds promising for anyone interested in this X-pipe. I'm looking to get it. Read below;
"Thank you for the inquiry. 1. This exhaust will fit any aftermarket and stock exhaust; it is a complete bolt on. 2. ECU upgrade is not necessary. This x-pipe will not throw any check engine light. 3. The current o2 sensors will bolt right on without the need for extension. 4. Adding the x-pipe will raise emission level and might not pass the test; but then this differs from state to state so it might be ok in Florida but not in California. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further assistance. To place an order, please feel free to do so on our website. They are arriving at our warehouse on this coming Monday. |

Florida doesn't have emissions testing, does it?
