One of the advantages of running it further rearward is that you can run several fewer degrees AOA to achieve the same downforce numbers at the rear axle versus having it mounted over the trunk lid. The wing also gets in cleaner air the further back and higher up you mount it. Both of these lead to less drag for the same amount of downforce.

Another "+1" to having balanced aero, I see a lot of cars in the paddock running a rear wing with way too much AOA/downforce relative to the amount of front downforce they're creating, leading to a lot of high speed understeer.

-Greg S
I agree that further back and higher allows you to have similar rear downforce with less drag, but there's never a free lunch and the trade-off is unloading the front of the car. Also, the higher you mount the wing, the longer the drag-inducing uprights will be and most uprights are wide, thick, and often not parallel -which GREATLY increases drag. I have not seen very many good upright designs for track day cars.

For most people a good rule of thumb is to get a thin upright that's parallel and mount the wing ~ roof height.

Damn good for stock alignment. At 2:03 you must be doing hot lap and a cool down lap cause with stock pads and fluid it's almost dangerous! So much fade guys better be checking their rear view! Haha. Good job!

Yea.. It was 1.warm up 2.build my rhythm 3.hot lap 4.hmm 5.shit, need to go cool down.

Both the brake and oil temp get too hot after 4 laps. It was was fun whilt it lasted though.

I'm considering what's the minimal effort to go sub 2. Maybe lines, motul 660 fluid, ferodo ds2500 pads, vorshlag plates with good camber, and then some cheater tires. RA1 is high on my list for its durability. Sub 2 without breaking the bank or the warranty sounds good to me

KosherStogie - Nice lap! Looks like those tires have a ton of grip on such a heavy car. Did they get greasy? How did they hold up? What tires have you run before?

Need to mount your camera to see your hands.

You were flying! Surprising you had that much grip considering it was only 35 degrees outside.

I'd say its a better tire than the Rs3. Probably the same grip both new with a possible nod to the AD08R. The sidewall on the AD08R is stiffer so tires feels less squishy. I check the the tire pressure after this lap and it was 40 and I lowered it 2 psi (38) and even tried 2 psi lower again (36) and it'd seemed like the tires preferred 40psi. Although a friend mentioned to me he had better braking with rs3 and I don't know if it's a mind fuck but I think I agree. Think maybe the softer rs3 gives more contact patch under braking, possibly from softer sidewall if that makes sense.

I feel like my line wasn't as good as others on that lap but couldn't beat my times the rest of the day. This is only my 2nd day with aero so I'm learning how to drive the car with it. Went from 1:59:2 (Rs3) WITHOUT aero to 1:57:7 (ad08r) WITH aero at button. At WSIR 1:32:8 to 1:30:9 but didn't have the splitter then and was getting a lot of understeer. Excited to try the AD08R with the splitter at big willow in a few weeks.

Great lap and love the sound of AD08R's getting worked Glad you liked them and can't wait to get a full season on the AD08R's. Really think they are a fantastic tire and yes, I shoot for 40 hot, which usually has me starting around 30-32 cold, depending on the track. Looking forward to more times and vids...

On the DCT theres a sensor under the brake master that will cause the car to go into limp mode if brake fluid gets on it.

once its done they don't usually come back from the dead. Sensor isnt expensive and might even be under warranty for you. I believe Cody got his taken care of under warranty even with the bbk and all. Only down side if they dont warranty it is its not the most fun sensor to replace.

We've replaced a couple of these before.

The sensor is ~$125 + labor, its very delicate and a common problem according to a couple of BMW techs we regularly keep in contact with.

This isn't just a DCT issue. Happened to me as well on my 6MT.

Finally... FINALLY, broke sub-1:40 at RA!

And did it without aero, coilovers, or any big horsepower mods.

Track/Course: Road Atlanta
Best Lap Time: 1:39.80
Brake Pads: StopTech ST60/40, Pagid RS29
Tires (Size & Model): BFG R1S, 265/35/18 square; Apex Arc 8s.
Suspension: Stock springs & struts, GC camber plates -2.6.
Other Mods: Stock exhaust.

Edit: The speedo on Harry's is on the fritz and the lap-start trigger is before the Start/Finish line, but the timer works.
