M3 vs Late WRX???

Hey all, so last night, I had a late model WRX (4 door) pull up next to me (I was in the left turn only lane, he was going straight). we stopped at the light and when it turned green, he took off, clearly trying to get me to bite. I had my daughter and wife in the car so I laughed it off (plus I'm 40 sooo kind of out of that stage but the adrenaline did rise a bit) but I'm curious, has anyone raced a late model WRX? What were the results? I'm sure they're nasty out of the hole and he had at least an exhaust that was pretty loud. My guess is downpipes, exhaust, intake and a tune. Mods are in my sig below; 6spd manual e90 m3. Clearly bench racing here, but any ideas as to what the outcome might have been?

not from a dig but a couple years ago i had one try to keep up with me around a rotary and he couldnt and then when we hit the straight at like 30-40 he couldnt keep up either. when we stopped at the light he was cool and we chatted for a sec

i mean even with bolt ons youre gonna have close to 100hp over the WRX plus it weights about 200lbs more

Off the line, one may catch a lazy manual trans M3 driver, but if already moving the M3 will pull away unless it is a manual and you are in the wrong gear. The STI (the faster WRX with the big wing) are 100-105 mph cars in the 1/4. The M3 is a 110+ mph car.

Modded STI can beat a fairly stock M3, even well driven and on the highway.

He was in a WRX. You already won. Even bench racing results wouldn't matter at that point lol.

I'm in my late 30's also married with 2 kids. They were in the car with me once when a Mustang GT was trying to get me to bite, accelerating fast and weaving in and out of traffic. The fact that he was doing all that showed he recognized what's up with my car (although he wasn't respecting it.) At that point I knew I already owned him without even having to race. Plus it gave me a teaching moment for my kids. Dude just looked stupid with his loud ass Mustang.

I wish I thought this way when I was younger lol

Was this near El Segundo? I live in El Segundo and had some ass in his S550 Mustang super loud (although terrible sounding) exhaust did something similar. He was a total ass.

Yes, this happened in El Segundo! We had just finished eating at Shake Shack and on our way home minding our own business on Rosecrans. Wonder if he felt badass with 2 kids peering out through the rear quarter window 😂

OP you would have taken him no problem.. he might get a hood length on you out of the gate and through 1st but once you're in the meat in 2nd he's yet another set of headlights in your rear view mirror

Yea, unless it was highly modded, it wouldn't have even been close.

I have the 6MT but in the typical street encounter an auto or DCT gets the jump because it is instantly in the right gear. A 6MT has to be driven perfectly to be close to a DCT car. So the chance that a 6MT driver loses a street encounter is higher.
