Hi there guys I'm relatively new to this forum , but I'm in a sticky situation and would like any opinions and helpful advice Please

Anyways a buddy of mine totalled his E92 m3 the car is not that bad condition (despite them writing it off ) the engine still starts and idles and the front and left side of the car is in pretty good condition the bad part is that the right hand side the drivers (rhd)wheel took a bit of a knock by taking out a tree and so the whole wheel and control arm , brake disk caliper gone and drivers pedals are crushed in . Theres now a tear in the cars chasis and the carbon roof also took a hit and hit out .

What he'd like to know is if he could buy a normal E92 320i or E92 shell and then just transfer what ever he can from the m3 to the regular 3 series ? a lot of people say the differences come with different bonnet and fenders mirrors boot lid rear fenders etc but in terms of body could the v8 engine be straight swapped into the donor car?

ilikebmxbikes did the S65 swap into a 135i, which is the same as the 335i. He may chime in with details.

You need the front subframe from the M. Then all the rest will go over. It is a fairly involved swap, but no where near impossible.

Coding is also a necessity by someone that really knows what's yong on - not your everyday battery coding work.

Honestly probably more worth it to sell the crashed car or part it out and buy another e9x m3. If you want to pay the labor and go through the swap- do it into something like an e91 or 1er

Not worth it. It can be a nightmare but anything is possible. I'd take the insurance money, run and look for another e9x M.

Wait... Is it insured?

I'm sure he does have the subframe , its fully carbon on the M3 right? and can he not transfer all the electronics from one car to the other or is that more complicate than it actually is ?

he was thinking of doing something like into an E46 or E36 but the guy really likes his E92 so that idea seemed to be his last resort . Lots of people wanted to buy it but all talk and no pay . the thing is with the 1er the price here in South Africa is fairly around R200k/R170k so that is almost half the price of the M3 thats why his thinking of getting something like an E92 320i and stripping that and just using the body

If I had that drive train and was going through the trouble, I'd put it in a more interesting car. This is going to be costly and painful and he'll end up with a car that isn't near an M3. Having said that, I see you're in South Africa and I know things aren't as "easy" over there and sometimes you have to do what you have to do, which I respect. Good luck.

Thats substantial damage. I don't think its a good idea to salvage parts from that car. The subframe could be cracked for all you know. If not the subframe than certainly some other necessary parts for a swap.

I would buy a 1 or 2 series, load the drive train in and make a screamer. That car is so done and if you are going to go through the hassle of building make something unique that tears up the road. Glad your friend didn't get hurt!
