Talking E92 M3 Steering Wheel Mod

Good day to all,

This is my first thread to this amazing forum. I have deviated from Mpower for quite some time and finally came back to my senses with a 2013 M3 E92 ZCP DCT. Amazing engine/chassie but time takes its toll. So, as a first modification, im looking to replace the steering wheel with a flat bottom one. The aim was to have a wheel with half alcantara (12/6 o'clock positions) and the other perforated leather. However, the look really pricey. Furthermore, am suprised how rare and expensive the DCT flat bottom wheels even when they are used !
So, im thinking to get a MT steering wheel without the peddles and just replace the internals with my OEM wheel. I saw both wheels and the difference it seems from the back cover which is clearly replaceable.

For comparison, please check these threads as they show both wheels internals;

Glad you crossed back to the dark side, congrats! As to using a 6mt wheel on a DCT, no can do. There are cutouts and two threaded attachment points in the DCT wheel. The back covers are not back covers. It is all molded to the wheel. I suppose you could cut that area out, but you still have the lack of threaded bolt holes to be able to attach paddles. I have seen exactly what you want , but yes, pricey. I think you will just have to belly up to the bar and pay the price. Good luck!

This one is a sport wheel, but the only issue will be a slight relatively unseen gap where the paddles go in at the back as the cutouts are a bit bigger.

Appreciate your feedback man. This wheel on ebay is nice price wise, but i dunno is it just me or those wheel arches are furious. I'm more with the OEM M-Performance ones where the wheel curves are relatively less curvy and smoother.

Just threw that out as an example of something more cost effective. I was looking at a really nicely done one that was made from an original M3 dct wheel, but didn't think it was worth the $900 asking price.

E92 M3 Steering Wheel Mod

I bought a wheel from "ledermanz" on eBay. Less than $400 and it's a quality piece. Really happy with it. You can check out a few other examples here, Custom Steering Wheel Thread https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1569342 good luck.

Was it 400$ with sending your wheel to him ? And how much time it took?

Finally installed !!

Here is some pics of the final product. Big shout out to Aza Auto Wheel

Went for flat bottom, M-tri stitching ,half alcantara, half smooth leather (for durability), red strip 12 o'clock and red M button. Also, added aftermarket Paddles from ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/08-13-BMW-E...K/251328381557

Here is a random pic for my baby

How much and how long to arrive? I love that look. Did you have to send a core? I hear they don't use real DCT wheels.

I got mine from AZA as well. I believe it was about 5 weeks total. I did not send a core and the wheel I recieved was an original DCT wheel. I couldn't be happier with the workmanship. I believe it was just over $500 all in.

Looks great! Does it feel thicker than original wheel? Let’s say at 12 o’clock?

Slightly, but very comfortable, and the thumb indents are perfect. I was concerned on how the grip would feel, but am very happy with it.

I got mine from AZA too. Paid $335 shipped. Ordered through Instagram so it was a bit cheaper than eBay. I passed on aggressive grips for a more OEM+ look. Rounded flat bottom, M stitching, and perforated sides. It's not as soft/padded as the OEM wheel but looks great and quality is excellent.

Do you have DCT? Big price difference for a DCT vs. stick. $600 is high for them even with a DCT wheel though.

Just checked on eBay and it looks like they've raised their prices since my order last year. My wheel was around $350 on eBay at the time IIRC.

Price quote was for DCT....if it’s $600 shipped I would rather pay little bit more and get oem
