Easy, because BMW can create M3/M4 variants with incremental enhancements and people will pay for them. It's easy to manipulate demand with an intense marketing campaign coupled with a limited quantity run.

Good point about the tires - that’s another place where features diverge. Looking at the M4 CS interior again to refresh my memory, I can’t figure out why they decided not to go with the Alcantara bolsters for the M3 CS. I thought maybe the theme was carried into the rear seats and, because of differences between the coupe and sedan rear seats, they would have needed some unique Alcantara pieces for the M3 CS. But it looks to me like the M4 CS back seats are just black leather and identical to the standard black M4 seats. Maybe they thought sedan buyer would prefer all four seats to match? Even if so, I don’t know what would have been so hard about using Alcantara on the outer bolster surfaces of the rear seats on both cars. |

already given my pov on how much of a non event this whole CS thing is
no drivetrain changes apart from coding already being offered by an Ethernet cable, and now looking at the m3 cs, bmw didn't even bother making new door trims for it in that carbon cloth material the m4 cs just landed in aus, and has every journo scratching their head why bmw is charging +100k for it, especially since our cars come with pretty much every option (excl. ceramics) standard |

I'm torn with this car. I love everything about it but I don't think I could live with the dct transmission.

Still - the old school analogue controls bemuse me. Can still do single zone A/C with digital technology. My home is. |

What about the price point? Could you live with that? I know it's an unknown quantity at this time but it's fair to say it will likely be somewhere between ~$100k and the GTS at ~$134k.

Interesting that you are so " bemused"..... Rotary controls are better for making an adjustment quickly (particularly in an automotive environment ) as opposed to repeatedly pushing or holding a button? Note that the idrive knob is a Rotary control knob - as are most other driving assistant type systems from other manufacturers.. As an audio/video van.. I saw both car audio head units and also home audio go from the rotary volume knob to digital buttons or sliders.. but you know what's most common today again? The rotary volume knob.... don't sweat the technique! Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 11-07-2017 at 08:15 PM.. |

I agree totally - rotary knob for the function used 99% of the time. As for the rotary knob for selecting the air vents, no. Digital is great for that. Especially being able to turn each one on and off as desired, not just having a "4 option selection" on a rotary dial. |
