For the bushings you need to remove the shifter carrier under the car, replace them and reinstall the carrier.
For the shifter you just need to remove one clip under the car and the rest is accessed from the cabin.
you can do everything with the carrier still in the car.

Is replacing the shifter selector rod joint also worth it at 65k km mileage? Haven't seen any info on this one, but I thought while I'm in there :

Turner poly carrier arm bushing and RE delrin oval bushings installed. Actually I was surprised with the difference it made (the car is only 66k km/41k miles). I would say the amount of play in the shifter is similar as before, but it feels much more solid overall. Gear engagement is also more precise and direct. I didn't replace the rest of the bushings, since I intend to get a short shifter in some time, but these alone are definitely worth it.
On a side note, these harder bushings introduce some NVH. I actually like it, but for some people it may sound that something wrong is happening with the gearbox. Every gear change has now an audible click, you can hear some transmission whine when in gear and a bit louder synchro whine (?) when going into gear (especially 2nd). All these sounds are relatively silent and audible only with radio off and light throttle. And they are all great imo
Can't wait until I get the SSK to complete the transmission upgrade.

For those interested in Turner's polyurethane shifter arm bushing, here are Ron's thoughts on it:

Based on this feedback, I decided to skip the delrin bushings and the Turner poly arm bushing.

On a separate note, after reading all the positive feedback on this forum (especially SYT_Shadow 's), I placed an order for a shifter 6mm higher than stock for use with ZHP knob (so that the ZHP knob sits 6mm lower than the stock knob) and ~18% reduction - identical to OP's. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

As for shifters for the F8x platform, Ron has told me that he has shipped one to Canada recently so he does produce them, but probably doesn't advertise it.
Yup. That is exactly what's in mine. Glad I did 6mm higher instead of 12mm higher. Now that I have my OEM knob in place, I can barely tell that it is higher. Would have been pretty noticeable had I tried to exactly compensate the lower knob height of the ZHP. Now I just need to figure out what boot to use so I can get my ZHP installed!

Today I drove my car to work for the first time in a week or so and that damn shifter puts a smile on my face every time. The shifter was by far and away my complaint with my car once I got it. Now I hop in and am thoroughly pleased to drive it. Anything else I am going to do to the car is because I want to...this AutoSolutions shifter from Ronald is something that you HAVE to do.

Glad to see this thread is pointing more people his way.
Anyone can clearly state what the cost is?

Also what additional parts are needed for install to bring this up to spec?

Any DYI threads on the install ? Thanks

It's like $400 if I remember correctly

There is no DIY. Unlike in the E46M, in the E9X this is quite straight forward.
You do not need to remove any portion of the exhaust
In the cabin, remove the knob, the boot and the fat piece of foam padding.
In the bottom of the car, remove the trans shield

Thanks for the info.

Do I need to purchase any new parts as far as shifter bushings go? ( or does he include new stuff) I saw in another thread that some say to replace 2 of the pieces Instead of the full rebuild kit from ECS...

he does not include the shifter bushings and I don't think he includes the plastic shifter 'cup' piece either

Anyone has experience with the recently launched "adjustable short shift kit" from Turner Motorsports for the e9x M3?

Ordered a shift kit, and new motor mounts...pretty stoked. I think it's going to be a vast improvement!

I don't, however, after the excellent experiences in my E46 M3 and the E92 M3 they'd have to give them away for me to opt away from the AS kit

I have a Autosolutions SSK which I will be having installed this coming Thursday. I also have a transmission refresh kit from ECS with Teflon shifter bushings. How will they make the shifting feel in place of the stock bushings? Less rubbery? Smoother(i hope?) I don't want to have to use more effort during shifting. I'm going for smoother and more precise..

First you have to split that part in two. They separate in the 90 degree elbow in your picture. There's a circlip you remove and then can separate.

The shifter shaft goes in through the top and then connects to the linkage through the connection you removed earlier

What about replacing the shift lever bushings?

No way that can be done without removing things? ..not a huge deal to drop midsection etc ..bc I definitely want to replace them

Also here's some info courtesy of Turner which more clearly illustrates what needs to be done.

Interesting, I have not seen those before. Mine is a earlier version as I've had it for like 2 years
