Any of the chemicals mentioned won't harm the clear coat as long as they're removed, however they will strip off any wax, sealant, or coating on the paint. Make sure it is protected after the job is complete.

Steam is best, no residue left on the paint, also no risk to the paint unlike heat guns.

Someone, please help me not lose it. 4 hours tonight spent on this. I tried everything. hairdryer and plastic razor blade.... even tried the rubberized wheel to horrific failure. I'm maybe 50% of the way there on the removal alone, and will have then to do a paint correction and pray for damage to be repairable.

HOW MUCH DOES A NEW HOOD COST? IM LOSING MY MIND.

Is it possible that the hairdryer isn't producing enough heat as (compared to a heat gun)? In the first pic, it looks like the film is holding together decently and not breaking off into tiny bits, but the others look nasty to deal with. I was finding that the right amount of heat was about the point just before my hand would just start to feel a bit uncomfortable with the heat (i.e. heat gun in one hand blowing heat toward the other one gripping/pulling upwards on the film). FWIW, I found the middle section of the hood came off the fastest, everything close to the edges was a lot more time consuming

thank you! very much appreciated... I will try the heat gun method and hopefully that will help. Anyone have a recommendation for DIY simple polishing to remove swirl marks? looking to find some things at a store locally and give it a shot over the next few days after I get the clear bra off..

IMO your best bet for something local in stores would be Meguiars M105 cutting polish, and ideally M205 afterwards. It’ll definitely need to be applied with a machine polisher, with some medium/orange cutting pads for the cut compound and white pads for the finer polish

About 10 hours later over the course of a week, I finally got this garbage off. It was brutal... but satisfying to finish. I did a quick scrub and hose down in the rain to get the adhesive remover off but glad it's off. Now I need a paint correction.

Wow, congrats mate to a freaking job well done. Followed you and felt the pain, what a relive. Had mine on for some 3y but doesn't sit out in the sun (like we had much of it..) and believe I'm safe.

Good job!

That’s quite a difference in colour from where the film was...

it's mostly from where I only soaped, washed the front end since it was raining and late at night.... plus the water on top of the remaining adhesive leftover... still gotta get some of the adhesive off, but might leave that to the pros to avoid any damage to the paint. luckily paint color looks fine in person, just needs a nice correction.

How was the difference between the paint that had the clear bra and the part that didn't? I want to remove mine, but worried about a clear difference of paint fade and potential of more chips and pits from bad Bay Area roads
