94jedi's 08 e90 M3 build journal...

Hey all, figured it was time to start a build journal. I've done this with every car I've had, even before automotive forums existed (well, back in the mid-late 90's when we neanderthals used pen and paper lol). Fair warning - this won't be a major build thread like some of you made, I'm not gutting this car, building a stroker s85 or custom making a widebody kit...Just enjoying this car and moving to an OEM+ type of look.

Like many of you, I searched for my e90 M3 for a long time. I've been a member here since 2014 and have been looking ever since then. After intensifying my search and not finding much, I became quite discouraged. Eventually in Nov of 2017, I was contacted by a poster on the other M3 forum and the rest is history. I picked up my 2008 Jerez Black E90 M3 with slick top and 6MT on November 26th 2017. Black Novillo leather, Carbon trim, Top of the line audio (forgot the option #) it was exactly what I was looking for. On top of that, the car came with some very choice mods already installed...Akrapovic Evo (full) exhaust, Macht Schnell Stage 2 intake, Macht Schnell pullies, and Rogue Octane SSK. The Interior received some nice OEM+ mods as well in the form of Alcantara boots, F10 M5 illuminated shift knob and a steering wheel replaced under warranty by the previous owner. Honestly, that was a major selling point for me. I can't tell you how many M3's I looked with gummed up nasty steering wheels. The exterior was 100% stocke save for body colored reflectors. Overall, most of the must-do mods were done, and then some.

A few pics of the car from the previous owner who delivered the car:

And a few days after I took ownership, I had a full detail done:

First mod was in December...call it an early Christmas gift to myself. I called Alex at Alpine MSS and ordered his stage 2 tune along w/ some euro coding.

The car went from fast to downright dangerous on winter tires.

After a couple of months, I kind of felt the interior needed just a bit more flash, so I added a red start button.

Great write up. Maybe a DIY on adding ZCP will be in order with a few action photos and the process.

Hmm I don't know what it is, but this e90 just doesn't have "that" look....

jk! I'm sure once you get the new suspension on you'll be extremely satisfied

Yep. I see we have a spring install DIY but haven't seen a non-ZCP to ZCP diy. Looks like I'll be doing that lol

I had initially planned to black out the side grills but I think I'm scrapping that idea. I will however move forward with the black out M3 emblem on the trunk. Should be a quick project, hoping to knock that out soon.

Be sure to code the EDC part! That will be the key to taking advantage of the ZCP package. Glad someone finally bought Mark's extra set.

might have time to do it this weekend! Should be fairly easy w/ hand tools, right? I don't have air...but was thinking about borrowing a cordless impact driver from someone. Spring compressor is a must, of course.

Honestly, if you have a complete set like the the one Mark sold you, you can buy the remainder of parts (shock/strut mounts if they werent included) and build a whole set without the need for a spring compressor at all. The spring compressor is basically needed if you need to disassemble the strut assembly and from the looks of it, you almost have all the parts to build a remove and replace job!

Had a little time last weekend so put on the black m3 badge. Not a big fan of chrome but not sure i like this either. The black badge is the F80 M3 comp pkg part #, so its a bit larger than the original one. If it doesn't grow on me, I'll get a new chrome badge. sorry for the terrible pics!
