Peeling Carbon Roof clear coat fix in Houston?
Hi all,
Having the clear coat peel off my carbon roof and I've been looking to find somebody who could get that re-coated. Progressive Autosports was not interested in the job. The new 1488 Collision (forgot the new name) gave a quote but it's hard to schedule and communicate. Any good luck in Houston with this? Thanks |

Are you happy with the results from CMS? I found a guy down in Clear Lake but that's a long drive from the northside. Any way you can post a picture? Also how much did they charge you?

FYI I got a quote from M Performance in Conroe at $1600. Seems like they would do a very thorough job (they listed pulling headliner, front and rear windows and replacing seals) Not sure that is necessary and kind of scares me off.

Unnecessary unless they are replacing the roof.

I agree that taking the windows out is not necessary based on my research, however, I am just about due a new windshield anyway so I'm considering that while we're at it.

Based on what I have seen, I don't think taking out the front and rear window would be needed unless they remove the roof then refinish it while it's taken off. If you don't need windshield I would be more comfortable keeping the OEM ones intact until you have to replace them, the window seals on our car is garbage tho lol

Okay, reporting back.
It's done and it turned out GREAT! I researched a bunch, and drove around a bunch interviewing shops. Ended up going with Alamo Collision in Alvin despite living in the Woodlands. Hell of a trip, but worth it in the end. Several shops didn't want to tackle the job. Everybody said they'd "try" and even if Robert at Alamo said the same thing, he was the only one who conveyed a sense of competence and trust. I am sure that M Performance in Conroe would have done an excellent job. Their shop is very impressive. Unfortunately, I am near the end-of-life for this car and despite wanting to keep it for two maybe three more years I am very hesitant to put more money into it than necessary. That said, Alamo had the best quote. CMS Collision said they'd try also. Their quote was a bit higher but I think they were my second choice. Spring Body shop at north i-45 would have tried as well. Classic Collision formerly 1488 Collision would have farmed the job out, they were willing to try too. KPI Collision Center was a hard no. Caliber Collision by Home Depot, Egypt, also a hard no. I will attempt to attach before and after. I also had the windshield replaced, non-OEM. Pretty cheap, but I get hit every few weeks and it's not worth spending a lot of money on what is unfortunately a wear-item living near i-45. W12x: have "Concept Racing" on Veteran's Memorial Drive take a look at the headliner. He did a great job with refurb on mine, took a day. |

That looks very very nice, congrats!
btw if you don't mind, could you share how much the Concept Racing headliner job and Alamo Collision roof job cost ya? Probably going to take care of mine soon ![]() Quote:

I have an appointment for Alamo on Monday. Like someone else said they're the only ones who would talk intelligently about this specific work. Worth the drive. Will post pics after I get it back.

Follow up on Alamo: Happy with the results and price was very reasonable.
Roof turned out very nice although a little dark. Robert said they had to add some tint to hide the yellowing. I was hoping to be able to see the carbon weave clearly but you have to get up close or have bright sunny day. Still the finish is completely beautiful even if it looks like a black glossy roof from a distance. 4 days, approx $1500 with some additional paint repairs on the trunk deck. Small complaints - car was pretty dirty inside, white dusty footprints and hand marks alll over. And they put the M3 emblem back on in the totally wrong location. I fixed it. |
